I lived in Toronto and there was a completely dry area called Swansea> The was a pub call the Wedge (a contraction of Wedgewood road - the end of the dry area - and edge) where there used to be a partition with a fence were you could not drink alcoholic beverages. So in fact the wet area was at the back of the pub. Quite a folkloric anecdote about canadian liquor laws. In Ontario, you get booze (rums , whiskeys, sweet liquors and wines) from license Gvt stores called Liquor Board and you get beers from special shops (govt owned also ) called Brewer's Retails. Need to show ID in case yopu look under 19 (drinking age) > Last call at 12:45 and curtains at 1 AM. So what people do is orderthree beers and drink the last one warm until 2:30 AM. sad life if you think about it. In Quebec, liquor is still controlled , but you can get your brews from the corner shop. last call is at 4 45 AM and drinking age is 18. In Quebec the women are also much easier, too , but since everyone is more drunk......... it makes no diff> |

Ah yes, the degenerate, so-called "good old days." Thankfully, alcohol has since been totally banned, and handguns and church are mandatory! |

From Victoria just take the District or Circle line on the underground - it's about 20 minutes away. As for pubs around Paddington, I'm not sure - there's a pretty big one called (I think) The World's End more or less opposite, but on a Friday evening it's bound to be packed solid and not necessarily the easiest place to meet up. Leave this one with me. |

So....
A pub in Paddington on Friday evening to meet up - Once we have decided on which pub I'll try to get there for around 6.00pm. Unfortunately, I appear to have lost my trusty Sombrero in the house move so I guess I should strap a dildo to my head and pretend to be a unicorn then? Hmmmm....maybe not. Seriously though folks, I suggest that we decide on a curry house this week and then book it an advance for about 7.30pm which should give everybody enough time to gather. Failing that, if a few of us swap mobile numbers, any late/lost souls can call to find out where we all are. I can't wait to meet all of you guys. ![]() |

Easy Livin
Sorry to hear that you can't attend (although it's understandable considering the distances involved), you will be missed. Sean Trane Yes you are right in that DH hasn't raised his hand but I think he's also some distance from The Smoke so that might be the reason. I'll look into finding and booking an appropriate curry house unless anyone else whants to do it? ![]() Edited by sigod |

I think it's great you are going to meet up. Sorry I can't be there. It just shows what a friendly forum this is. How many other Internet forums meet up in real life?

![]() More info boys and girls. I have found what might be a suitable candidate (courtesy of Syzygy's list of Curry houses) for us to brutalise. The venue is called The Golden Shalamar Restaurant (for location, see link) streetmap.dll?G2M?X=526653&Y=181142&A=Y&Z=1 This looks to be the closest one that I can find to the station. This is the on-line review and details. The Golden
Shalimar Restaurant - reviews 6 Spring Street London W2 3RA tel: 020 7262 3763 How does this one look to everyone? |
