all the women I know (an I know a lot, being a teacher) are not really interested in music, unless they can dance it or the "artist" can shake their hormonies.
I don't want to generalize, but I think music - and our kind of music, particularly - doesn't have a great appeal with women. Music for them is more a way for the expression of the dance - a form of art that is totally female dominated (at least here in Brazil).

^Look in the mirror and take another try.
BTW it is true that females are less interested in music. Yesterday I was at a concert of a very relaxed Belgian Popband and still no more than 30% were women. And compared to other concerst I have been to, that was a lot!
I think only Robin Williams and Justin Timberlake get percentages of 50% or perhaps 60% of women. For the rest... it is a men's world.

More females have voted than I thought! Maybe Lindsay Lohan is one of them...?
Prog it strikes me is predominately male (and maybe some of us need to
get out more, not post so much, etc...) Metal - seems to be more of an
even split, certainly my good lady is a big Iron Maiden/Meat Loaf/
Thunder fan.
Oh, I am male and grumpy and older than I'd like to be....

Not an easy question. My beloved Mercedes is quite interested in progressive music, but on her own way. She likes very much ART BEARS, and other female artists, wich tends to sound like happy witches, and some other male artists, from Jethro Tull to Robert Wyatt. I think she likes music with emphasis on deep feelings, like Van Der Graaf Generator, Meredith Monk, etc. As for the rest, I don't know many girls who are into Progressive or experimental music. ¿How many girls are users of this site?.

I actually think that there are quite a few female proggers out there, they just don't attend concerts or talk on forums as much as guys do.
