I don't see how Shadow Gallery can be classified as unmelodic...

Ed, let's keep the Polish here to a minimum, all right? Easy Livin has already asked us to do so, and I think we should comply, lest this thread suffers the same fate as all the ulking and arfing threads.

Norwegian black (and actually nearly all raw black metal) is a waste of time, IMO. It's quite interesting as an artisitic statement, but gets boring very quickly. Satyricon's "Rebel Extravaganza" could be an exception. Symphonic black seems a little better usually and avant-garde black is said to be quite cool - although I've only heard Mayhem's "A Grand Declaration of War", and I don't know if it can be described as avant-garde.

Very good album, BTW.

So what do you consider fast, heavy and unmelodic metal, then?

EDIT: Sorry, I've also heard Arcturus - "La Masquerade Infernale" and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Ed the set list looks something like that:

1. As I Am
2. This Dying Soul
3. The Mirror
4. Beyond This Life
5. Hollow Years
6. Only A Matter Of Time
7. Endless Sacrifice
8. Finally Free
disc 2:
9. New Millenium
10. Caught In A Web
11. Another Day
12. Guitar Solo/Goodnight Kiss
13. Solitary Shell
14. A Passage To Bangkok (LaBrie destroyed this one with his screams BTW: that`s a Rush cover)
15. Stream Of Consciousness
16. In The Name Of God
17. A Change Of Seasons (Encore)

Some guy from allegro offered it to me for 40 zł I simply couldn`t resist myself

As for norwegian black metal I admire Emperor`s and Satyricon`s works and of course Arcturus + De Mysterris Dom Sathanas by WE-ALL-KNOW-WHO Rest is pure garbage to me

BTW: I got drunk once with Defekt Mózgu`s drummer once and realized that in the middle of the party. I hate punk though

Well, Meshuggah maybe? Strapping Young Lad?  I love those bands and they are quite heavy and raw...

Anyone know Atheist? Are they good? Should I get some stuff?

Nah, it`s a fan made CD. One camera etc. but still good

I heard "Suspended Animation" before Manu and I have to confess I`m a little disapponinted Nothing new especially when I have almost everything Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen and Gilbert recorded.

Yep, Atheist is very cool. If you like them, get Death's "Human", "Individual Thought Patterns", "Symbolic" and "The Sound of Perseverance", as well as Cynic's "Focus". Also Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" and Gentle Giant's "Octopus" (because if you don't start to diversify your tastes soon, Ed, you'll be left with a stack of CDs you won't want to listen to again, trust me)

Wolf, if you get the chance to listen to "Suspended Animation" again, do so. Petrucci's approach is different than his more accomplished colleagues'. I think he pays more attention to rhythm, for example, than guitar pyrotechnics (that's not to say Vai, Satriani et al are only about that). Anyway, you have to devote some time to get the most out of the CD and I think it's worth the effort.

I had a casette with a Sedes/Defekt Muzgó split, with songs like "Jesienny Wiatr" and "Zesrał się gołąbek (?)". Remember those?
