I nearly fell off my chair reading this. All I have to say is
that there are some things you may never understand.

To this thread, I voted for Gentle Giant. Was it not Gentle Giant that
literally DEFINED progressive rock (not specifically, but their style of
music and intent on creating it) in Acquiring the Taste?

EDIT: And how can you say UNjustified votes for Genesis? How ignorant
can someone get. Genesis' music was far more emotional and intelligent
(lyrically) than Yes. Also, Genesis wrote musical parts to convey the
emotions of the lyrics (more well crafted emotionally.) Keep in mind I'm a
big Yes fan and I love Yes but to say that Genesis will get unjustified
votes because they are Yes wannabes with masks? Genesis would never
have wanted to sound like Yes.

I love Gentle Giant, and I think in terms of redefining a genre in general, they'd have to be the real "giants" of progressive music. I like some Yes stuff...but I do have trouble getting in to some of them. I like Close to the Edge/Moments of Fragile and The Gates of Delirium...that's all i can get into =(...what are we missing?

Ifigured since they were the most debatible prog band in the 70's, I thought they shouldn't have been included

I voted for YES (big surprise), but of the bands listed, you have to admit that YES, Genesis, ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson & (not listed???) Pink Floyd all contributed mightily to the PROG cause.

If your problem is Yes, I have the same with Genesis. I actually like The lamb disc 1, some moments of Selling England and Foxtrot, but IMO the last two albums could be one single good LP - nothing more like this.
