That's me...I'm the creator of the thread.  I don't HAVE an opinion on it.  I can't until I know what it is I'm listening to.  Otherwise I'd never have started this thread.

I'm just saying that once you do listen to the album, there will be many who will try to sway your opinion regardless of if you liked it or not.

It depends on your taste in music, or prog to be more specific. If you enjoy prog metal and harder prog rock bands, then you will absolutely love Scenes! It's an amazing album full of intense music driven by an incredible concept and story. But if you prefer only classic prog like symphonic and folk prog, then you may not like this album. It really depends on your taste.

If you like prog metal, SFAM = amazing

If you dont like prog metal, SFAM = crap

I personally love prog metal, symphonic prog, folk prog, art rock.... all that stuff from DT to Rush to Yes, Genesis, Tull... i like them all so i love DT and SFAM!

Lets just discuss the music without dissing each other.

It is the nature of a music forum to expect forthright views about bands and albums we like or dont like. What isnt permissable is to start insulting each other.

Be nice!

I like SFAM personally.  However, SDOIT (while a bit heavier) is equally awesome.

Scenes, in my eyes, is not bad, nor is it good. It is the "most progressive" of the Dream Theater bunch (I know people are going to want to kick my ass for this, but I like ToT more...), yet as a whole Dream Theater still bores me with their constant "shreding" of 64th notes that has little to no melody usually. I used to enjoy the technicality...as a matter of fact they used to be my favorite band...but unfortunately the charm wore off...I think if you enjoy Dream Theater in general than you will enjoy the album most likely, though for how long I cannot say. If you don't really enjoy prog metal/Dream Theater than I'm sure you probably wouldn't be getting this album.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case

I find it to be one of the most boring prog-metal albums ever, Dream Theater only do anything for me when they're actually trying to write songs rather than just show off how talented they are.

that's coming from a prog metal specialist? Wow- maybe you'd better re-consider your title.

Same for me.

My quistion is, is there any cheesy ballad like Die an other day or
the awnser lies within? I really hope not...

Of course. You think another day is cheesy? I think it's a brilliant song and
very very emotional. I think theres two ballads on SFAM so you should
probably stay 100 feet from it at all times.

I think it's a great album.

I think its one of their best and one of the best prog- metal albums ever, however I cant decide if the story is really great or retarted.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy of some Flute and Voice (Indo-Prog/Raga Rock) albums please PM me! Many thanks!

I think it's a brilliant story( I printed out the reviews and read them, to find out what I had gotten myself into)...but I also know that it's not just the concept that one must think about.  One has to think about meshing the concept to the music and having it make sense. For example, 2112 is a fantastic example of meshing concept to music and it MAKES PERFECT SENSE (IMO).  I'm a fan of prog-metal, owning a few Queensryche and Nightwish CD's. I think they're phenomenal, but opinions are like assholes...everyone has one, and; well, you know the rest.

For about two years SFAM was the #1 album for me. Not anymore, but it remains as the most influental album for me. Probably I've never liked any album more than that one.

SCENES FROM A MEMORY is the album that got me into prog...

It's one of the Dream Theater's best albums.

One of the best prog/prog-meatl albums ever made, my mate believes its the most importent concpet album since Dark side and I do wane slightly to that opinion plus it is one of their more listenable albums (im not saying that all their albums are not listenable) alongside six degrees of inner turbulance aswell as one of their more possible commercial albums.

most defenatly an album id give to someone who wanted to get in Prog especially the Prog-metal scene and into Dream Theater

So...the general consensus is that it's a great album, with a few flaws?
