Topic: Metropolis 2: Scenes From A Memory Part 2 Posted: December 15 2005 at 18:51 |
I'm getting Dream Theater's Metropolis: Scenes From A Memory Part II for X-mas. It's rated pretty highly on Progarchives.com (4.29). Question, people. What am I getting myself into? In the end, I know it's my opinion, but I want other opinions as well.

Prepare yourself to be able to defend yourself regardless of your opinion is my advice.

I'll admit it's cheesy, but there are some solid riffs and rhythms in there...
Anyway, my comment actually wasn't directed towards you... it was directed to the author of the thread as I was mentioning to them that they better defend their opinion on it if they want to get anywhere.

^Where do you see the cheese? It's a perfectly well crafted, 5 star album... It's no Love Beach for ya...

There are a few prog cliches here and there, and the story is a bit out of whack. But overall I still think it's a good album, but not the masterpiece people rave it to be.

"it was directed to the author of the thread..."
That's me...I'm the creator of the thread. I don't HAVE an opinion on it. I can't until I know what it is I'm listening to. Otherwise I'd never have started this thread.

I never really got why it is so acclaimed. I think there are many other better prog metal albums, including a couple by DT.

My quistion is, is there any cheesy ballad like Die an other day or the awnser lies within? I really hope not...

Not DT's best by any means (the more mellow songs on the album drags it down from 5 to 4.5/5, IMO) but still an excellent album. You should really get it!
