(Studio Album, 1974) YES "Relayer" Review (Permanent link) by Thomas Mardy Posted 4:47:22 PM EST, 12/11/2005 This Album Must Be Given Special Credit. Losing Rick Wakeman Was Without A Doubt Going To Be Quite A Challenge, But Replacement Patrick Moraz Lives Up To All Expectations. His Unique Jazzy Style Is Both Enduring And Compelling. "Relayer" Is Just Fantastic, It Is An Album That Deserves A Place With The Best Of Progressive Rock Records. The Album Features Only Three Songs (Remind You Of Another Yes Album?) And They Are All Spectacular. Side One Contains Only One Song "The Gates Of Delirium", The Intro To This Song Always Catches My Attention, Steve Howes Guitar Playing In This Intro Is An Utter Delight, I'm Sure Most Would Agree. The Track Also Proves To Be A Triumph For Jon Anderson, His Lyrics Making Sense For The First Time Since The Yes Album And Also, Becoming Slightly Dark "Slay Them, Burn Their Childrens Laughter, On To Hell!". The Vocals Are Easily As Strong As They Were On Close To The Edge. Steve Howe Is On Bitingly Aggresive Form (He Must Have Listened To Topographic Oceans) And This May Be His Finest Moment With The Group. The Rhythm Section Is So Furios And Intense That It Doesn't Really Need The Shouting And Mayhem In The Background To Sound Like A Battle Sequence!! (But Does Add To The Atmosphere) All The Distortion And Volume In The World Could Never Match Its Intensity, Creating A Fierce Sense Of Excitement And Energy. After 14 Minutes Or So The Track Begins To Mellow Down (Howe Making Proper Use Of His Slide Guitar) To Become An Acoustic Guitar Led Finale That Is Simply Beautiful. Jon Andersons Composition Is Nothing Less Than A Masterpiece. Side Two Contains Two More Songs, "Sound Chaser" And "To Be Over". Both Are Excellent, "Sound Chaser" Containing Some Excellent Drumming And A Great Guitar Riff, The Song Is Led By The Very Talented Moraz And Features An Excellent Outro, The Song Changing Dramatically With An Almost Anthemic Punch, It Is Altogether A Very Lively Song, Giving Room For Every Member To Shine. The Albums Closer Is Wonderfully Melancholy And Relaxing, Giving The Listener Plenty Of Time To Cool Down After The The Intensity Of The First Two Tracks, The Song Is Magnificent And Contains One Of Yes' Best Middle Eights, A Beatuiful Guitar Led Theme. The Lyrics To This Song Are Remarkable And Very Poetic, "We Go Sailing Down The Calming Stream, Drifting Endlessly By The Bridge" It Is The Perfect Song To Unwind To, And Again Has A Wonderful Outro. "Relayer" Is Altogether A Perfect Example Of How Brilliant The Band Can Be. ------------------------------------------------------ Maybe the reviewer should be warned to check his/her text, because this is obviously done with "Title Case" formatting which is annoying to read. |

I'll update it Seyo. Personally I find ALL CAPS very irritiating, but the Title Case didn't bother me.

JETHRO TULL "Nothing Is Easy: Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 (DVD)"
Review (Permanent link) by Prodigio Posted 9:14:49 AM EST, 12/13/2005 I stayed really sad looking how monetary was that festival... But, the performance of Jethro Tull.. MY GOD!!! They look like a band of beggars making a explosive sound, the charisma of Ian Anderson is unbelieveble!!!
Negative point: So few songs... Don't think much of this review myself...short and doesn't go into the music at all..

DREAM THEATER "Octavarium"
Review (Permanent link) by RikkiNadir Posted 4:03:11 PM EST, 12/13/2005 Undoubtedly one of the worst bands to ever have the term "prog" applied to their music, this is more of the same. Tasteless bombast that makes ELP sound austere. The vocals (as always) are terrible, and if your idea of a hot guitarist is metal hammering/shredding wank-off this is right up your alley. And it's a dead end. Listen to this and then listen to a real progressive masterpiece like Van der Graaf's "Pawn Hearts", then walk shamefacedly towards your dustbin and insert this embarrassment directly into it and never look back.
Certainly this seems like a kind of review that any DT-hater could have written without even hearing the album which i actually doubt he has...i mean John Petrucci hardly has any solos at all on this record and they are hardly of the "lets see how fast i can play this bit" as it perhaps have been previously...
Besides he seem to ALREADY be thinking that DT is awfull, so why would he then suddenly give this album a proper listen then? It seems highly unlikely that he goes out and buys albums of a group that he already hates. Edited by Lindsay Lohan |

I disagree with Lindsay's assessment here. Granted the guy might not have liked DT, but maybe a friend loaned him the CD to see if it might change his mind, which, it's clear, it didn't. I've seen many other reviews with much less substance than this one, including many 5-star reviews of this album. I say let it stand. |

I had come to that conclusion myself BTF. It's not a great review, and I will be sending one of my advisory e-mails to the reviewer, but I think it's just about OK.

Agree. Although I don't really think this is a very good album, I would give it 3 stars or sth like that. Anyway, this is not a way of expressing yourself. |

RUSH "Moving Pictures"
Review (Permanent link) by Kevin Posted 12:32:04 AM EST, 12/14/2005 This is it.....in my opinion, the best progressive album, ever.
I Think that Rush is the best Progressive Rock band of all time, and this is one of their BEST album, hence the 5 star rating. Superb Musicianship. Excellent Lyrics. Solid All around- the guitars, drumming, bass playing. No weak songs- its all there! If you don't have this...then there is a bug problem! Just a weak review IMO.

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV Proto-Prog (Boxset / Compilation, 1975) DEEP PURPLE "24 Carat Purple" Review (Permanent link) by NELNOMEDELPROG Posted 1:10:16 PM EST, 12/14/2005 Ok, if you the music is the MkII of the Purple... Here the better than the better one! Otherwise you will find this compilation a little cold. To my warning they do not suffice songs like "Child In Time", "Fireball", "Strange Kind Of Woman", "Black Night", "Speed King", "Smoke On The Water" (all 5 stars and evergreen songs) to do a big compilation. I recognize that it is a big disk. But alone for who it wants all of the Purple or die hard fans. |

It's a rating without review now! I posted the info in a thread though. Others dealt with SD and SBF. I edited that one slightly Seyo, an online translator I think. Let me know if it's still not understandable. |
