I'm a math student from Finland who got into prog by listening Opeth
and Porcupine Tree. I started to wonder what is this prog thing and
after I heard ELP's Tarkus I had to step into the dark side. Luckily
for me, I won a competition from my record store. I got to pick free
records worth of 1000 euros. Most of my cash went into prog records.
The prog bands I mostly listen are ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant,
Goodspeed You! Black Emperor, King Crimson, Kuusumun Profeetta, Pink
Floyd, The Mars Volta, Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator and Wigwam.
I try to keep open mind with music so I listen lots of other music
beside prog, althought I would say that at this point of my life, prog
gives me the most. I like metal a lot (Opeth, Emperor, Anathema, My
Dying Bride, Messuggah, Ulver), but I'm also into post-punk/gothic rock
(Joy Division, The Sister of Mercy, Bauhaus) and other darker rock
bands (Interpol, Depeche Mode, Muse). I also make regular excursions
into classical (Bach and Listz) and jazz (Miles Davis).
Beside studying and listening music, I jog and play complex board
wargames. I also like to make long lists about bands I like...
Just saying hi and thanking for the excellent site. I chose most of my free records based on the reviews on this site.
