Hey Snow Dog I see you've been listening to Coheed and Cambria, how do
you like it? (Just want another opinion to see if I should maybe pick up the
album, heard a few samples that were kind of impressive.)

My 40Gig is almost full
5300 songs = 30 gig, but I only have about 7 gig to fill because when they say 40 gigs they dont actually mean 40.

Make sure you back up your files on another HD tho, my pod has failed on me twice.

how long do any of you suppose a gig is in time, or how many average sized albums, (45 mins) could fit into a gig. I have no idea how many songs I could fit into a 40 gig since there is no average time for a song when it comes to prog.

It all depends on what bitrate your music is ripped at.  I recommend at least 192kbps, which translates to roughly 1MB per minute of a song.
like I said before, I have fit about 5300 songs into 30 gigs so far, all at 192kbps or above, and most of it prog.  At the bottom of the iTunes display, it tells you how large your library is, and mine is 17.6 days worth of music, in other words i could listen for the better part of a month without hearing the same song twice.  I have lots of DT, classic prog, fusion, and post-rock tracks in excess of 15-20 minutes on there, too.

I have just a basic 1.5 gig offbrand mp3 player. I filled it up in less than a day, and only could fit 25 cd on there, but hey, atleast it was only 100 dollars.

I've got the big 60GB iPod.  About 4,000 songs right now, taking up about 20GB or so.  I love it.  I can plug it into my stereo and never have to get out a CD.  I'm still keeping my CD collection, but now I don't have to worry about misplacing or wearing out any.

I have a question for any of you other iPoders.  I would like to find a way to keep certain tracks playing in order while shuffling.  For instance, an epic that is separated into multiple tracks.  In shuffle mode, it might play a middle part, then several other songs, then another piece of the epic, then a few more.  I'd like to be able to designate those tracks to always play together in shuffle mode.

Apple has got to know that this is a shortcoming of the iTunes software.

Any suggestions?

Yeah because I heard the single a while ago and thought it was awful. Than
the other day my friend was playing them (and he generally doesn't listen to
interesting music) and it caught my attention. I think I'll give it a listen.

Fragile - I really enjoyed C&C's latest album

Most of my mp3's are 128kps (that's CD quality).
I don't keep much of my music on my computer, but my iTunes displays the following:
1930 songs, 6.6 days, 7.93 Gigs
I've also ripped at 56kps, and that still sounds fine to me; I'm not too picky.
My recent purchases:

I have a rare Thomson Model (lyra 2845) with 40 G that uses mp3pro (it compresses almost twice as much as mp3). Currently, it's almost complete with around 12,000 songs. I don't know if I will have time to listen to them all...

Viper, I've had my 40GB iPod for a couple of years, and the easiest way I've
found to keep multi-part epics together is to shuffle by album.

If you want to also shuffle by song, you could create a separate library for
this. I don't think the software lefts you specify different kinds of shuffle at
the same time.

I only have 2 GB left -- I have about 5100 songs at 24.2 days -- many of
which are full album mp3s. Solves the shuffle problem!

The easiest way is joining the mp3 files of the epic, create a new mp3 file with a program designed for that purpose, I remember that I did it in the past but I don't remember which program i used.

This is the Supper of the Mighty One.
