I've never liked Dream Theater that much, but you must respect Mike Portnoy. He is just so great.

Mark Zonder. On tour in 95 Fates Warning blew the main band (DT) out of the water as far as precision is concerned. |

Mark Zonder. Just listen to albums like "A Pleasant Shade Of Grey". Enough said!

come on people, have you seen Mark Zonder on stage?
I agree that Portnoy is extremely good (at least) but Mark is more "essential"
how does that sound?

My favourite drummer in the prog metal genre is Mike Portnoy, although Mark Zonder is equally astonishing. |
Is Tool considered Prog Metal? Danny Cary is a fantastic drummer.

Bleh. Bad list. You forgot, as many mentioned:
Martin Lopez (Opeth)
Johan Langell (Pain of Salvation)
Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)
Danny Carey (Tool)
Hellhammer (Arcturus)
Gene Hoglan (Death)
My favorite to listen to is Ark's drummer, but Portnoy is the best.

I am prety sure that the most of you guys have never heard Mark Zonder's playing.
He is as technicaly skilled as Portnoy and he has more distinct sound.
