is youth losing its roots?

...you'd be surprised of how many people that age actually know prog... they are more than you think... anyway, it doesn't really matter...

Me and a few of my teen friends like prog, although we are students

I gotta say i hate the popular rock music of our generation.

I am 19, and I currently have .66 friends interested in Prog. I do not count
people who listen to just Pink Floyd, everyone likes Floyd. I think the best
way to get people interested in Prog. is to tie them down in a chair and start
spinning records for 5 hours. Otherwise if you do not tie them down, there
short attention spans will kick in.

Another thing I never want is Prog to go mainstream. The media and big
record companies will exploit and kill it one by one. Luckily are hero has
come, the internet. This means the end of major labels!

That must mean something about the way the popularity of music has intensified its crappiness and made mainstream artists sell out, and my generation (or any other generation, for that matter) become more obsessed with popularity and less concerned with actual music. As you can tell, I hate society.

Society isn't generally too forgiving for a fifteen year old into prog (or anything else unusual, for that matter) - probably even less for girls. The good news is as other people get older they become more accepting, and as you become older you can find more nice & accepting people (and maybe even some into prog )

im only 15, and i discovered prog a couple years ago through rush, which an uncle was playing in a car, i liked it and i discovered that there is more to music than the mainstream trash. it's fun for me to listen to a whole album at a time in a room alone with the music turned up, just focusing on every aspect of the music. most kids in my town my age just listen to whatevers on mtv and the radio, so i doubt many other 15 year olds like or have the tolerance to listen to prog.

i guess the ADD 15 year old inside of me is why i also enjoy listening to at the drive in, rites of spring and fugazi.

music doesnt have to be prog to be good, you know. there are many talented musicians who dont choose to play extremely complex songs or 30 minute epics. a con ive notcied that applies to most proggers is that they are closed minded to anything that isnt prog.

i told someone that was wearing a dark side of the moon t shirt that pink floyd is prog, and he said that "pink floyd is like acdc, theyre rock! falloutboy and modest mouse are prog!"

at first i laughed because i thought he was kidding, but he was totally serious.... heh kids these days right?

You are absolutley right, their are good bands that are not prog; I can
count them with one hand.
