Topic: Prog Band You Most Want To See In Concert Posted: December 10 2005 at 17:46 |
For me, I'm dying to see Ozric Tentacles in concert. Alas, they never come anywhere near where I live. Other bands I would have loved to have seen in their glory days (ELP, Genesis, Pink Floyd). What about you?

As I'm only in my early twenties, I never experienced the peak of prog music in the early seventies of the last seventies. Therefore, I really like to be able to go back in time to see bands like Soft Machine, Gong, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Caravan, but also Rush and Saga at their peaks. More realisticly, I would like to see the Swiss band Clepsydra in concert. I missed their concert in the Netherlands, but really like their music. Also Pendragon is high on my still to see live list. Just a case of waiting and checking tour dates.

I'm with Sleeper,I would have loved to see Gabriel-era Genesis.
I also wish I could have seen Kevin Gilbert perform live before he passed away.
Alot of the newer prog bands that tour always come to my area(Baltimore/DC),so most of the bands that come around I am able to see.

I would've loved to seen
The Jimi Hendrix 1967 European Tour with Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd-or any Barrett concert with Floyd.
The Jimi Hendrix North American Tour 1968-with Soft Machine. Or any tour with Soft Machine from 1966-1969

Gabriel-era Genesis above all for me.

But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion

Well the ones I didn't get to seethat I wish I had were Frank Zappa and original line up of Mahavishnu Orchestra; also I wish I had seen ELP in their prime.
However I did get to see my favourite band Yes, 4 times (inc Tormato "In The Round" tour progger - but not as good as Going for the One the year before), King Crimson (1981 - with Belew/Levin), and Led Zep at Knebworth.

Would have loved to have seen Gentle Giant and Gabriel-era Genesis live...would now like to see Van Der Graaf live as well...
But as of recent bands I'd like to see these days it'd have to be Pain Of Salvation...any live DVDS anyone knows of BESIDES the BE one?

Genesis reunited with Gabriel as singer, filling the huge Maracană Stadium with more than 200.000 people to break the records of Sinatra, McCartney and John Paul II... Amen!

Prog bands that I've seen live...
- Opeth [twice... once on the Deliverance tour, once on the Damnation tour]
- Porcupine Tree [once, on Opeth's Damnation tour]
- Rush [An Evening With... 3 hours of absolute bliss!!!!]
- Dream Theater [On Gigantour... they played about an hour]
- Symphony X [On Gigantour... they played about half an hour]
Top 3 bands that I would like to see that are still a possibility...
- KING CRIMSON!!!!! [Would probably still be mindblowing, given their 90s output]
- Jethro Tull [Heard from a friend that they still ARE amazing, and played all of Aqualung!]
- Yes [Who cares if it would be sort of a "greatest hits" type deal, I want to see it]
Top 3 bands that I would like to see that are not (currently) a possibility...
- Emerson Lake and Palmer [Would have liked to ser them at the height of their 70s glory]
- Pink Floyd [Well, IF there's ever a reunion... it would have to be with Roger]
- Genesis [With Peter Gabriel singing... of course, reunions still pending]
EDIT:
Should have put Hawkwind on there but it seems they only tour England and Europe these days.

Lucky you! I was at the led Zep gig at Knebworth but I didn't really enjoy it! Not the band but venue!

Gabriel Genesis, Gentle Giant, Yes.
I already saw Jethro Tull a couple months ago, although it would have been the best to see them on the Thick as a Brick tour.
