RUSH R30- 30th Anniversary World Tour progressive rock album and reviews Art Rock

RUSH "R30- 30th Anniversary World Tour"
Review (Permanent link) by Absynthe

Malgré cela, ce DVD contient d'excellentes chansons Live soit R30 Overture, The Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta, Der Trommler, 2112/Xanadu/Working Man, Limelight, La Villa Strangiato et Freewill!

Review (Permanent link) by Dominic Bourque @ 3:05:30 PM EST, 9/26/2004

1 stars  —  Ok very techninical. But the rest is very bad. Song after song is the same think not melodic, many guitar solo pruduct a mix of sheep psycho aspect. The vocalist is just bad,for is defend i think in this music we don't need a vocal because no place for great melodie voice.Complexe But!!!!!

OCEANSIZE Effloresce
Review (Permanent link) by Hymnos @ 7:14:23 AM EST, 5/12/2005

5 stars  —  A fabulous album! Rock above all, but because adventurer and of a style avant-gardist I very classify it like one of the very great success of the rock'n'roll in general at the side of The Volta Mars.

Andrea, I've edited the review. I think we can all tolerate some maths if people want to include it, but that was way over the top!

SBF - Deleted the text and left the rating there. I've e-mailed the reviewer to explain (hope they speak EnglishEmbarrassed)

SD - I'll delete the first review completely, leaving a rating only for Dominic. I don't remember seeing the Oceansize one on the front page.Confused

Thanks all.Thumbs Up

GENTLE GIANT "Out Of The Woods "
Review (Permanent link) by Gus

3 stars   Just a note to the site owners: THE TRACK LISTING IS INCORRECT. The listing here is actually the one for Totally Out Of The Woods. This was a single CD release, that only contained the following tracks:

1. City Hermit (first time on record!) (4:58) [21 July 1970] 2. Isn't It Quiet And Cold? (4:36) [21 July 1970] 3. Excerpts from Octopus (12:50) [4 December 1973] * Knots (2:14) * The Boys In The Band (2:59) * Organ Bridge (1:55) * The Advent Of Panurge (5:42) 4. Way Of Life (5:58) [4 December 1973] 5. Proclamation (6:03) [12 December 1974] 6. Experience (5:40) [12 December 1974] 7. Aspirations (5:01) [12 December 1974] 8. Cogs in Cogs (2:58) [12 December 1974] 9. Just The Same (6:09) [16 September 1975] 10. Free Hand (6:20) [16 September 1975] 11. On Reflection (5:56) [16 September 1975]

TOOL Lateralus progressive rock album and reviews Progressive Metal
(Studio Album, 2001)
TOOL "Lateralus"
Review (Permanent link) by Metropolis
Posted 12:28:25 PM EST, 12/8/2005

2 stars   IMHO it's not even a prog. Yes, there are true progressive elements in Tool. But some progressiveness you can find in Tool's music doesn't mean it is progressive music. You can find a lot of prog elements in Metallica's early works. But you don't put them in same drawyer as progmetal. Queen II and many P.Gabriels albums are much more progressive but still they are just "related" prog.

Doesn't mention the album at all! He's just talking about that "Tool isn't prog" etc.

I stuck this review into Babelfish and it came up with this

"A little disappointed... If you are a fan of the old Rush, do not buy this DVD. The DVD 1 is filled of song of albums of the Eighties and Nineties which are not necessarily progessives... Do the DVD 2 include/understand several vidéos, but why vidéos? It would have much more interesting to insert Live interpretations there... In spite of that, this DVD contains excellent Live songs is R30 Overture, The Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta, Der Trommler, 2112/Xanadu/Working Man, Limelight, the Strangiato Villa and Freewill! Sincerely, Rush In Rio is much more complete. It contains YYZ, Freewill, Natural Science, the Strangiato Villa and By-Tor and the Snow Dog which were removed from R30... Moreover, I heard spoken that a video version DVD of Exit Training course Left would leave soon, here a good news!"
Notice the well-known Rush live album "Exit Training course Left"!

5 stars   Perfect sound. Perfect songwriting. They keep being my favs. Simen does a tremendous work! Great mixture of every Arcturus album. Don´t know if its a masterpiece of Prog Music. But its a masterpiece in general.

I've found several reviews that I put here that don't mention a damn thing about the music, but no one seems to do anything about it.  I mean; hell...this one doesn't say anything about the music/album either.  Yet it's there.

SUBMARINE SILENCE Submarine Silence progressive rock album and reviews Italian Symphonic Prog

SUBMARINE SILENCE "Submarine Silence"

4 stars   Who cares that this is so very much like mid- to late-70s Genesis! I love it.

If you like the instrumental Genesis tracks that were very much influenced by Tony Banks/Steve Hackett then you'll love this.

Highly recommended to all Genesis/melodic instrumental prog fans.

Halcyon days!

Can't stop them being posted SBF. That doesn't mean they are not dealt with, neither does the fact that they don't get shown here. In that particular case, he does actually say something about the music.

That one's on the list Wigu.

Chopper, if you could tidy it up a bit, I'll gladly post the English version. The rating is still there.

RADIOHEAD Ok Computer progressive rock album and reviews Art Rock

RADIOHEAD "Ok Computer"
Review (Permanent link) by Rob P.
Posted 9:45:10 AM EST, 12/11/2005

5 stars   You can see a division between those that think Radiohead is prog and those that think otherwise. The sad part is: those that don't think they are prog are the ones giving bad reviews, so OK Computer (and their other albums) would have a higher rating! This album is a classic regardless of genre and is ESSENTIAL!

As I see it SBF, if I read the review knowing nothing about the album (which I did), I would now know to expect something which sounded like Banks/Hackett era Genesis. I'd also know to expect an instrumental album of melodic prog.

Given that this is a relatively obscure album, I think that information will be helpful to those who read the review. In my case, if I came across the album, I'd now give it a go, as the review indicates to me I might enjoy it.

Anyone else have thoughts on the validity or otherwise of this review (the Submarine Silence one above)

5 stars   Well this album is kinda Steve Hackett-album, which is not bad at all. Acoustic sounds and beautiful singing by Collins. I actually can't find no "bad song" from this great album, every song is great and very "windy" actually. The name of this album could not have been any better. I don't know who made up that name but its cool! I highly recommend!

TRANSLATION

One of the most beautiful albums of all times but like all work of the 60s demands a bit of time to be used to. It begins with the orchestra playing all themes and only after we have band and orchestra alternating. With exceptional melodies and vocals, the Moodies showed why the tiny foggy island (Britain) was so sophisticated and powerful when speaking of music, I recommend also comrade bands Procol Harum and Traffic as a dessert. Ah, the cover must be seen in the vertical: a male's face and a female's face may be seen.
