Topic: Most influential band in rock Posted: December 08 2005 at 18:58 |
well for me it's The Beatles, but Sabbath would come after that as favorites.
Excuse my inexperience if there is someone BIG missing... Enjoy

Beatles without a doubt. If it were not for them then none of the listed bands would sound the same at all, and some of them probably wouldn't exist. Just listen to how much 60's work sounds like it is trying to be The Beatles.

Beatles followed by Byrds, Stones, The Who, Animals, Hollies, Doors, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues & Deep Purple. The two last and The Beatles have fundamental influence to prog-rock as a whole.
Some individuals are worthy: Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix.

In Rock, of course The Beatles, that's a fact.
Even when guys like Chuck Berry and Little Richard should be here, because they even influenced The Beatles, they were the real pioneers and the guys who invented Rock

I'd say as The Beatles drift future into the past, Zep will take the reigns, then possibly Metallica.

I say Bill Haley (dont know how to spell his name) and The Comets, withought them rock n roll would just have been a footnote in history.

Well like you I have voted for the Beatles as well and I also don't really like them either so your not alone. I think most straight rock bands would name the Beatles as their inspiration and influence. I suppose Cream could of been there as an influence to a lot of bluesy/jam type bands ie: LedZep , even some prog bands? Early Floyd are mentioned by alot of artists into trippy/pyschedelic/space rock including a lot of the krautrock & electronic bands.

Obviously The Beatles - love them or hate them (and I rather like them, though they're not my fave band), their influence on ALL genres of rock cannot be denied. Then I'd mention Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath for their influence on hard rock and heavy metal.

Has to be The Beatles.
Although they're good, did you really mean to include Black Sabbath on a list of the most INFLUENTIAL bands??!!

i voted for zep, because the beatles to me were more
of an influence to pop. led zeppelin to me created all
the moves and "rockisms" that seem to have
influenced everybody to this day.
besides, I'm slowly but surely getting sick of having
the greatness of the beatles shovelled down my
throat at every occasion anyone care to agree?

How could anyone pick another band than The Beatles? They are not among my favourites but you've got to admit that they were by far the most influential band ever!
