I'm with you on Heinlein - only have a couple of the books (yes, the obvious ones ![]() Just finished The Da Vinci Code (sorry, guys, I enjoyed it, so there), and as it's coming up to Christmas, Ive now started on a festive book (sort of) - Terry Pratchett's "Hogfather" - this has been on the shelves for ages, along with another 20 or so Pratchett books - I can't believe I've never read this one... |

I also just finished the Da Vinci Code, and while I enjoyed it I can't really see what all the fuss was about.I have read books that were a lot better. Right now I just started the newest book in Simon R. Greene's Nightside series.

Be waned that the Silmarillion is in a narative style and is ultimatly more heavier going than TLOTR, excellent read though, the fall of Gondolin is my favorit chapter. |

I don't read much, but I've just begun reading Yann Martel's Life Of Pi. I'm only 48 pages in but so far it's quite awesome. |

Short story time - I've read Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber", "The Erl-King" and Jane Yolen's "Johanna" today. Awesome and highly disturbing.

Agreed - it won the Booker prize here in the UK, and in my opinion it's the one of the best Booker winners of the last 10 years or so (Vernon God Little was particularly disappointing). |

Another good, but dark novel by Wilde is The Picture of Dorian Gray. Here are 2 interesting counterpart novels,(the picture is some sort of counterpart in the story of Dorian): The Stork Kalif(Gólyakalifa)by Mihály Babits, I'm not sure if it's available in English The Distant Companion by Julio Cortazar, excellent short story with a Hungarian link.

Well, my most recent reads are
Leo Tolstoj ~ Anna Karenina (was good, although a bit slow) Robert Jordan ~ Knife of Dreams (good, much better than CoT) Daniel Sjölin ~ Oron Bror (strange, psychedelic book) Daniel Sjölin ~ Personliga Pronomen (also strange and psychedelic, but easier to understand than the other one= V.I. Lenin ~ Imperialism, the highest state of capitalism (interesting, even though the 100 year old statistics over the growth of German bank trusts are a bit boring. Quite easy to follow, and very interesting to put in perspective with today's talk about globalism) William Shakespeare ~ The Tempest (Good, even though the English was a bit hard sometimes for me) J.K. Rowling ~ Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince (Good, but a little toothless) I might have missed one or two... Right now I'm reading Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser. It's a very interesting book, and I can highly recommend it. |
