5 stars   I cant bealive that this album is soo underrated... This is one of the most important Dream Theater albums. This is DTs "the album" , because it pefetcly reflects the style that DT has. It is the second song i heard from DT , but the most worthy one. I would also like to add that this is the far most emotional album DT will ever had... If you havent lisened to this album than you dont know nothing about progressive metal.

ah well...

  • First, it's not an album, it'a a EP
  • Second, this review is also fanboyish!
  • Third, he attacks the reader with: If you havent lisened to this album than you dont know nothing about progressive metal.

 Delete!

I have the album, BJ ... so even though the Change Of Seasons is a new track, this review comes under the album, which has a second half of live covers  ... But aside from that I do agree that he doesn't say much beyond this being the most emotional album the band had (which is a bit hard to justify if half the songs are covers) ... hmm I'm leaning towards tossing it out, but when I'm totally sure ... I leave it to the big boss man, EL.

So, someone gave 'Tresspass' five stars. The whole reviewing system and how it influences the chart positions is scandalous!

Why? Because you don't like Genesis????

Get this in your head, despite your opinion, Genesis is one of the ESSENTIAL bands in Prog history until Wind & Wuthering, most people here and in any prog site all over the world consider most early Genesis albums as masterpieces.

But most important, people who rated Trespass so high took their time to review the album and explain why they gave such a high rating, something you haven't done ghere, you just mention the word scandal but without a single argument.

Trsepass is a 4 stars average album, 5 Collaborators have given 5 stars to this album (Plus a lot of reviewers), 41% of the ratings give this album 5 stars and 42% (including myself) give this album 4 stars.

Does your unsupported opinion has more value than 83% of the people whoo rated this masterpiece with 4 or 5 stars?

I find more outrageous and wrongly ifluential the 1% of people who rated Trespass with 1 star (of course a vote without review).

But it's normal, not everybody has to love a determined album.

Iván

Look through the last few pages Seyo ... Easy Livin explains ... basically braindamage has a Japanese e-mail address, but he doesn't reply to e-mails sent in english ... his reviews obviously use an online translator ... EL's policy is to delete the review (but leave the rating) when they are incomprehensible ... and leave the ones that just about make sense

It's a poor review, in fact it's nto a review of the album at all, and for that reason I'm included to remove it.

Regarding BJ's points (my comments in red):

  • First, it's not an album, it'a a EP Given that at over 40 minutes it's longer than most of the "classic" prog albums, I think that's a bit pedantic, and certainly not a reason to delete the review.
  • Second, this review is also fanboyish! Not an offense in itself, if it's supported by a review of the album.
  • Third, he attacks the reader with: If you havent lisened to this album than you dont know nothing about progressive metal. Midly offensive, I might edit that out of a review which was otherwise OK. (Mind you, to continue the pedantry, the double negative makes it a complement!LOL)

URIAH HEEP High and Mighty
Review (Permanent link) by Igor Panov @ 6:02:05 PM EST, 6/30/2005

5 stars  —  If you take just the "Weep in Silence" and do analyse a bit not even the music, (which is fantastic by evidence), but also the studio work, panoramic, sound-art, -will you tell me then - is there are much of artists like Uriah Heep now? So it rests very-very progressive for ever!

Buy the "High & Mighty"-with "Wizards" there are 2 historical chef's-'oeuvres of the XXth century.

Ok, the fragile review is gone (someone beat me to it!)

and I agree with Salmacis that the Igor Panov is relatively incomprehensible and barely a review ... so I'll keep the rating, but ditch the text ...

1 stars   Easily DT"s worst effort and yes I recall WDADU which is better than this shred fest. There is but one decent song which needed an edit to be a great song (In The Name Of God). I actually made my own edit (turns out 8 1/2 minutes is plenty!). All in all, get OCTAVARIUM!!!!

2 stars   "i've neve heard of ANY band having a 2-c.d. album, but only 6 songs in it. This album is probably second only to scenes from a memory."

Dear Mr. The Dude,

Probably you should hear an album called Tales from Topographic Oceans, from Yes.

Cheers,

SYMPHonY X The Odyssey progressive rock album and reviews Progressive Metal
(Studio Album, 2002)
SYMPHONY X "The Odyssey"
Review (Permanent link) by wchuck
Posted 12:04:24 PM EST, 12/7/2005

4 stars   The Odyssey is the 6th Studio Release by Symphony X and was released in 2002!

Inferno : Nice starting riff (reminds of "sea of lies"), heavy vocal performance during the 1st verse, but a nice chorus and fantastic solos.

Wicked : A typical Iced Earth song, maybe a bit more progressive. Simple Metal Riff, Chorus and Solo, but afterwards an arpeggio that introduces a new verse, that sound very beautiful. Very groovy song BTW.

Incantations... : A stunning beginning, a powerful verse and chorus, very dark and hard as well. Uses the story of the Apprentrice by Paul Duka.

Accolade II : Fantastic harmonic song with powerful, atmospheric refrain, more keyboard/piano and a fantastic solo and wonderful melodies. Sequel of "The Accolade".

King of Terrors : Based on Edgar Allen Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum. Through the darkness of the story the song is quite dark as well and the heaviest song ever by Symphony X (including vocals). Very atmospehric and a perfect conversion of Poe's story.

The Turning : Very fast, something like a speed metal track with a long solo! Very strange vocals sometimes!

Awakenings : What a track! Starts of with a theme played with keyboard bass and guitar, but always varied. Then a wondeful paino theme, inspired by vivaldi, with incredible vocals. After that it gets a bit heavier, not too heavy! Very fluent it proceeds with other verses 1 chorus (at the end), some solos and a jazzy piano intermission!

The Odyssey: This track is the best Symphony X ever made. It's amazing that Michael Romeo wrote it alone. It begins with an overture, I guess inspired by Dream Theater's Overture! Then a fantastic arpeggio with the accoustic guitar, with a very nice verse. It's played a while and then powerchords are added. After that it gets heavier (like in Awakenings), a solo follows and then the second verse, this is awesome. After that the vocals become heavier as well. In the further time there are further guitar driven verses, a piano & vocals sequence, an incredible solo by Michael Romeo and a classical part inspired by Wagner. For the End (Up to 20 minutes) there is first a solo, including the notes for the soon folowing refrain, then another verse (the accompanist reminds of the on in "Candlelight Fantasia"), the refrain I just mentioned, a solo and at the end the arpeggio from the beginning played with the e-guitar!

So Symphony X stepped on another path, a more heavier path, developed further and tested lots of new things but also remained lots of old signatures.

negative :

-very heavy -guitar driven (less keyboard) -sound (it's hard hear bass and parts of the drums)=> need special bass modus -too much metal

RATING! :
