 Topic: Recommendations Wanted! Female Vocalists.

So anyone out there wanna give me some recommendations....
I've been listening to Affinity's 1st (and only?) album as well as Linda Hoyles' solo album. I've also been going nuts over Curved Air's first 2 albums. I wanna know some other prog bands with good females vocalists that are HEAVY, i don't want any of that whimsy hippy sh*t. Basically I want anything that sounds like Julie Driscal singing with Hairy Chapter.
Also, whilst I'm here, anyone heard that Martha Velez album 'Fiends & Angles'? I got the single 'Tell Mama' (which is crappy) but the b-side swamp man is rawkess blues-psych. Just wondered what the album might be like?

Try The Gathering out,they have a good female vocalist,Anneke van Giersbergen
Arjen Lucasson's new band Stream of Passion features the excellent Marcela Bovio,who is one of my favorite female singers right now(She is also on Ayreon's Human Equation album as "The Wife",and is also in a band called Elfonia).

Buy STONE THE CROWS' "Ode To John Law" - possibly my favourite album
of all time. Imagine a more organic, bluesier and much more progressive
LED ZEPPELIN fronted by JANIS JOPLIN, and you're coming close! Or get
"Skeleton In Armour" by FUSION ORCHESTRA - imagine an ultra-heavy,
manic, breakneck speed cross between YES and JETHRO TULL! That
band's leader and singer Jill Saward later went on to SHAKATAK, believe it
or not!

Annie Haslam & Renaissance. Incredible vocalist! Incredible Prog/Classical Rock of the 70s! And; they actually re-grouped (to some extent) in 2000, and released another album.

Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow  at first I was sure this is a man singing/growling but the then I saw the name of the singer and then the pictures...you can't go wrong with these...

The Renaissance tip is a very good one. If you can get your hands
on "Scherezade and Other Stories" that is one of their best
efforts. It doesn't rock hard, but it has lots of lovely
melodies. My wife, who has sensitive ears that can only seem to
bear classical music, actually likes that album.
For a bit more of an edge, I highly recommend Lana Lane. She
patterns herself after her mentor, Ann Wilson of Heart. But this
girl rocks even harder. I would start with "Secrets of

Also, give a listen to the Kate Bush album "The Dreaming."

One more. The band is no longer together, but you can certainly
enjoy the Drain STH album "Horror Wrestling." This is just plain
old kick ass rock with lots of power chords. I wouldn't put them
in the progressive bag, but they certainly know how to rock.

Only heard the original vinyl and it's not bad, it comes off the shelves fairly regularly to be played. Martha Velez was an American lady who came to London to record, and so who's unnamed session musicians (unnamed for contractual reasons) are British, including by the sound of it, Free, Keef Hartley Band, John Mayall, Chicken Shack etc. Hence a late 60's British blue boom set of tracks. BTW are you suggesting a CD have been issued - hopefully with liner notes filling in the gaps wrt to naming names of the session musicians?

Babe Ruth wasn't exactly prog., but they did have some somewhat heavy stuff, with singer Jenny Haan. The self-titled third album is fairly good.
