Topic: Best Pop Yes Posted: November 30 2005 at 16:13 |
I know there's more that you would hear on the radio, and extremely popular ones, but this is what I narrowed it down to. I didn't include Roundabout because its the obvious winner. So this is the 2nd place of pop songs made by Yes that sometimes us prog-heads just don't like. I like them all though, in fact music like these songs on the radio got me into prog, a few years back.

Tie between "I've seen all good people" and "Long Distance Runaround".
"Owner of a Lonely Heart" is also quite good

This poll doesn't make much sense. You're pitting a TYA and Fragile song against two 90125 tracks. I don't consider anything from TYA or Fragiile pop. Short does not = pop.
So I voted for Owner, which is the best Yes pop by far, and one of the best singles of the 80s.

For myself, I'd have to go with "Leave It," one of the best latter-day Yes tracks.

I chose the 4 songs that I hear on the radio the most, making them the most popular, I excluded Roundabout. I asked what is your favorite did you read the post?

Owner Of A Lonely Heart, an excellent though much-maliged song (9/10).

All good songs, Leave It is one of the best later numbers, but I'd go for Long Distance Runaround.

Voted 'Leave It' as I find the 'Flying Pickets' vocal style amusing. I dont really like any of those songs.

Yes, that's absolutely true. From the 4 tracks mentioned, I choose this one as well.

If we're talking about pop song I can only choose between "Owner..." and
"Leave It". I choose "Owner of a Lonely Heart". It's a well produced
pop song with interesting sounds and many layers of music. It's quite a
fine piece. The song that itroduced me to Yes in the first place. The
90125 is the album that lured me to prog....RESPECT

I don't know if I would consider the earlier Yes songs you've listed pop, but they were singles. I can not stand 90125, so I will choose Long Distance Runaround.

A great deal of you guys like 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' more then 'Long Distance Runaround' or I've 'Seen All Good People'? I wonder how many of you like Genesis and/or pop-prog more then 70's Yes and voted in this poll. I'm surprised anybody would chose 'Owner...' over the 'golden age' songs of Yes.

Long Distance Runaround though I find it 100% prog. I hate owner of a
lonely heart. It reminds me of that hideous album what is it called? Some
number.
