What a silly poll, even Waters says he isn't a good bass player...

Squire. I mean, come on, he wrote a song just using bass guitars (The
Fish, in case you don't know). I will give some credit to Waters. He is
a good songwriter, however, he hasn't written a song just for bass
guitars (that I know of). Technically, Squire wins as well.

Squire. Waters isn't anything special at all, when it comes to bass. Mediocre at best.

Without a doubt Squire.
But all the people that make these best bass player polls always forget one important thing.....
TONY LEVIN(one of the greatest and most prolific bass players in prog!!!!!!!)

Technically there is no comparison at all - Squire wins hands down. Waters is an average bass player, well suited to PF's sound but no virtuoso - however, he's one of the best-ever lyricists and songwriters.

Bit unfair, Roger Waters started off playing lead/rhythm guitar. Geddy Lee is my man.

Strictly as a bass player, Chris Squire walks all over Mr. Waters. Now, if you bring songwriting into the formula, I'd give the nod to Mr. Waters.
