Good luck Marillion.

I hope they get a N° hit, I wish Foxtrot, Close to the Edge or Brain Salad Surgery woyuld have gotten some N° 1 hit, nothing would have made me happier than knowing people are trying to listen great music and that there's hope for humanity.

But writting an album with the main purpose of making a N° 1 hit single is really dangerous, they will probably resign to their inheritance and their nature.

If you get a N° hit or multi platinum album making great music, it's simply wonderful, Pink Floyd showed us that this is possible, but I'm afraid that if all Marillion wants is a hit single, they will probably choose the easy path of doing a catchy poppy bland album.

Marillion are certainly not the most prog band out there but their attitude to music marketing is.

SELLOUTS!!! I would have been mad if I was a Marillion fan.

If it's a good song, I don't care if they get to number 1.  Though to get to number 1 and be appreciated by the masses, you have to sacrifice most of the things that make your music unique.

Exactly what I mean.

I wasn't aware of Marillion being independent, which of course is a good thing. Hopefully it will give the major record companies something to think about if Marillion gets another hit. I just hope (Even if I'm really not care about Marillion) that they won't have to sacrifice much to get that hit.

I do want music for music sake and not for money but I admit that musicians too must make a living.

It was my understanding that last year members of Marillion's fanclub had a grassroots agreement that they would buy multiple copies of the singles, artificially inflating the number of copies sold, and in turn causing the band's single to chart more highly than it would have naturally.

If it's a good single, then fair play to them, but will it be a good single?

They were never given a slot on any of the music shows, just a mention in the chart rundown last april.

All I know about there new single is that the fans are going to ahoot the video for it and that its out next year.

No, to get to number 1 you have to sell more records than anyone else that week, nothing else

It doesn't play from the site.

The timer counts down as the system fetches the file, and the popup appears to advertise some services (one of the problems with a "free" service).

Close the popup, and when the timer finishes, the box will display "Click here to download".

I normally right click this box and choose "Save Target As".

But I tried today and it didn't do that... it just sat there...

Maybe I'll go back to using YouSendIt - I'll try later tonight, as I can't use YouSendIt at work

...apologies for hijacking the thread - I'll post the new link in a more appropriate area

Nuh, still doesn't work. It looked like it was downloading, but then just hit me with a popup, and nothing played...

More details- where do I find this exactly. The home page only seems to show details about uploading.

Simple - follow this link and wait 45 seconds: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9XU07W5S

er... it's not prog or anything, and this isn't even a proper band... just two guys, a computer and a few keyboards and guitars. We don't even practice...

ENJOY!!!

For more information on the 'Marillion Business Model', see the link below. It might astound you.

Given this, I think a UK No. 1 is a real possibility.

Thanks for the link sigod, I knew that Marillion were completely independant but this gives so much detail on HOW. And we know it works as 2 top 20 hits in the UK last year proves.

Seconded completely. I don't care for their early, high-rated albums (on here, anyway) at all because of that.

Unfortunately the major record labels are aware of these tactics

http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/news/story/0,11711,1593705,00 .html

This piece of dross made it to number one in the UK through downloading and file swapping alone. I don't know or care if it's still there...

Did I mention I've got a track available on Megaupload.com?  (plug, plug...)
