I must confess I haven't heard much from I&W, and I didn't like what
I heard. So I choose Lateralus. BTW, you meant better, not best
album of all times, right?

Lateralus.

I think I&W is a very commercial sounding album, and with the exception of Metropolis and Learning to Live I am not really crazy about it.

I've never heard Images & Words, and I don't need to.
The answer is Lateralus just the same!
Suck on that!
I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away.

Both albums are good, but Lateralus is a much better album overall.  In terms of flow and consistensy Lateralus is a much better album.

Why compare a band focused on technical exhibitionism to a band that makes interesting music?

Images and words by a landslide. Lateralus is too average to come close to it, in my view.

Lateralus by far, more creativity. Image & Words is too much mechanic IMO.

What would prompt a poll of such contrast?

I like Lateralus a good deal, while I enjoy Images & Words as well Lateralus easily takes the cake in my book.

probably two albums that are not really comparable. i consider lateralus one of the best albums of this century so far (brilliant songwriting and some of the best drumming i ever heard on a record). but i enjoy i&w just about the same, so i can't really decide.
