Hi,
I'd like to add something.
I wish one day everyone will learn how to open their minds and use Cannabis sativa wisely as a psychoactive. It's truly one of the most beautiful things you could ever experience while being alive. And, of course: moderation is the key, as with all things.
Thank you.

Oh, hey Jody! These days I barely have time left for the forum. So don't expect to see me around as often as before.

Interesting viewpoint you have there. As someone who has smoked pot in my past, but who has never taken it seriously as you say, I must point out that there seems to be a bit of self-delusion in that post. I have nothing against pot myself, hell, I think it should be legalized and I don't think that pot is a gateway to harder drugs. Nor do I think that pot is as dangerous as alcohol (my drug of choice). But let's face up to the facts. You smoke pot, not to get in touch with your inner child, or get closer to your version of god. You smoke pot to get high. I have no problem with that at all, but be honest with yourself. I drink quite a bit and I have no illusion that it's because I'm trying to get in touch with myself, or have a spiritual experience. I drink to get drunk, plain and simple. And you smoke pot to get high. And to state anything else is a cop out. I'm on your side in the argument, but it's a stronger argument if you say I smoke pot to get high and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.

^ yea i admit. i smoke pot to get high, but i smoke salvia divinorum to learn spiritually (that is true i really swear.. I mean that drug has a peak of 15 minutes, you cant take that just for fun),
i take mush well. that ones tough, when i take a bit its for the high, but when i take a lot its for the mind altering...
So yea. I admit, many times its for the fun... but there IS some spirituality in there. Im honest

Here's what I think:
You listen to music, and you love it.
You listen to music high, and you realize WHY you love it.

I quit when my first child was born.
I don't hate it,it's just not for me anymore.I was constantly stoned for over a decade and it just got old.I was so tired of being high that when I quit, being straight and clear-headed felt awesome. |
I had the same experiance 15 years of being stoned I needed a try at being str8 and it was great ... for the past 6 years I havent touched it and I don`t plan to , its hard work being stoned all day everyday it took alot out of me ... and being str8 has infact made me love prog more I know for a fact you don`t need drugs to enjoy prog ... Prog is the Drug

My high prog picks are : Tales from Topographic Oceans and Relayer
By the time I started listening to prog I coincidentally got out of
smoking pot, so I haven't really tried much else other than Yes and
Hawkwind. Hawkwind I couldn't stand while being high, though I
enjoy it a lot while sober, and it's incredibly fun while drunk for
some reason...
Being for drugs is just as dumb as being against drugs. Blah blah
blah, my apologies, I didn't feel like reading through the
majority of jibber jabber. As stated before, drugs have the
ability to enhance anything, since drugs affect your brain it's
really quite a complex experience to quantify and conclude in one way
or another, some will feel spiritual others will just feel like they're
having fun or getting scared, whatever. Alcohol is similar, some
get angry and violent, others get loud and goofy, etc...
cheers

I started smoking weed only 5 months ago. I am 24. Marijuana enhances prog rock because marijuana enhances life. Pot is probably one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me because it helps me enjoy life the way life should be enjoyed. How is prog rock with out it? Mother f**king fantastic. How is prog rock with it? Mother f**king fantastic. What do I mean when I say that... well we all listen to very awesome music, some of use while stoned, some sober.

I remember the first time I listened to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here while really high, and man was it ever good. But I have to say one thing, after being high for about 2 years its not as good as you seem to make it. Marijuana can enhance your reality because it helps you escape it, the feeling of being high is very good of course, but it gets old after some time. When you realize there are more important things to do in life then sit around and smoke some weed and procrastinate(well thats what I did) you might get a new view on weed, and of course like all drugs if you abuse it things will not turn out right in the end...

why screw something as sublime as music with marijuana? just like frank zappa thought, marijuana is not necessary to compose, listen or understand great music.

"Drugs are a mind blocker" wasn't that a quote from Mr. Fripp himself?
Drugs don't enhance you thought. In fact, they just block your mind from
the real world. Some people that have figured things out
and have been intelligent, have been on drugs because of stress of their
work and other various reasons. The correlation is not the way you think.
You aren't seeing those waves or whatever you like to call it on LSD, it's in
your mind, it's not real.
EDIT: Let me just add: I know plenty of people that are regular users and
the reason generally is to escape the real world and escape their
problems, or to get high at parties ect. There are many psychological
reasons why people do drugs.
You are just using "I can learn more about the world and change the
world" as your enabler to make it seem like it's good to smoke so you
don't feel bad about doing it. It's a common thing that a lot of people that
use drugs rely on.

Right. I would agree with you there. I'm not saying I condone you if you
are smoking to get high and escape reality, I'm just saying not to lie to
yourself about it. Smoking does stop your thought and just gets you high
for the feeling. It's not about becomming more intelligent and inventing
ground breaking ideas about life.

Pot can indeed make you see things in different ways
by interrupting your routine way of experiencing life. It doesn't "stop
your thought" and it can be used for more than just an escape. Your
altered state of perception can be very influential in helping a person
to see things in different ways. Even "bad" drug experiences can be
eye-opening in that they put a person in a vulnerable state, taking
them out of their secure reality of routines. In this interruption of
reality, it causes them to think about that very reality that has been
interrupted. Drugs are not necessary for this 'awakening' of sorts but
they can definitely facilitate the process.
Personally, my first experience with pot was a bit
traumatizing. I ate several brownies from a small tray that contained
13 grams. At first I was fine and then for about an hour I felt like I
was on the verge of an out of body experience, like I was being sucked
into a vortex, spinning. This coupled with anxiety and panic attacks.
It was not fun. However, after feeling like this for an of existential
hell, I finally just laid down and accepted it, took some deep breaths
and was fine the rest of the night. Sublime. I think my reaction was in
part due to my past beliefs about the drug; I was taught like many
others that drugs were really bad and my subconscious reacted as if I
was committing a transgression of my values; hence the anxiety and
panic.
I didn't smoke pot for a while after this, but
eventually got back into it and enjoyed it. Also, it was only after I
smoked pot that I began having borderline out-of body experiences in my
sleep, which is interesting. I smoke it occassionally for a different
experience, but my drug of choice is alcohol. To do drugs is a choice
and if one can handle drugs responsibly within their own lives then
what gives others the right to ridicule a drug user?
