    Posted: November 12 2005 at 11:48

Hello all. Was recently told about this site from a mate in the band, and finding it pretty great for searching new prog bands out there to listen too. However when it comes to my own band we are having some real troubles thinking up some good band names. alot of our influnece comes from bands such as Gong, tangerine dream, yes, crimson, hillage and so on. But we are really struggling to think of anything that can give the music justice. Has anyone here got any ideas they have thought upon before and never had the chance to use??

thanks,

Captain Tomahawk

The badn name is soo hard!

The best names jsut kind of hit you. Its not cool words or sometinhg like that. its inside jokes or funny things you see happen or sometihng like that...

But the problem witht that is that it takes a ong time...

Good luck though.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

How about just calling your band the same name as your username? Captain Tomahawk?

Some more good ideas kicking around i see. I know exactly what you mean BePinkTheater and im really hoping that something just hits one of us soon! The story behind the username is that Rory (guitarplayer in band) and myself were walking somewhere in a state of massive intoxication

Talking about our thoughts on the band and various ideas! We then thought it was a great idea to give ourselves Space Pirate names for the band, being Captain Tomahawk and Dr b*****d! maybe however something with those names could be used! you guys may well be on to something there! just got to give some pirate names to the other members! lol

Thanks for the input fellow Prog pirates!

Cap'n Tomahawk

Any Space Pirate names you guys can think of will go down a treat too now!!!

DEINDE CENTUM

excerpt from Catullus' poem:

Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus invidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.

It means: "...kiss me a thousand times, then a hundred..."

P.S. and I haven't mentioned the words' game yet...

CATCHY!  Or....how about "Falling Forward"?  Does that sound "prog"?  Or just tacky?

Hey all. I'll be meeting the whole band on saturday for a practice and hopefully even do a few recordings so that you can get some idea of the sounds that our crazy Scottish minds are producing! the whole name thing is still an issue but i think the best thing we can do is just wait and let it flow! Our practices do tend to have amazing vibes and the music really takes control of our minds and spirit, as does all the drink and weed though! It is in that state im sure something shall jump out! So with a bit of luck i'll be posting a kick ass band name on saturday. Cheers for all this help guys! It's great to know that  Prog music is still kicking ass, turning heads and loved by so many people all over the world!! now we all just have to convert the others!! lol

How do you pronounce that?

Just like it sounds, of course  .

I always liked the name "Fading Loss" myself.

Why don't you have these guys find you a name? - http://www.usedwigs.com/band_names.html.  Better hurry though - apparently "Bipolar Bears" and "Slumptious" are already taken.

Of course my all-time favorite is "Accidental Goat Sodomy", but that's just not prog, and I think that thread died out several weeks ago anyway............
