Sorry, I didn't know.
I understand it's a lot of work, but some bands really don't fit under one genre. Think of Frank Zappa. Maybe giving multiple categories to bands is a better option? |

^ no, that would even be more confusing. Genre per album is the way to go - an THEN perhaps also multiple genres, on the album level. In the meantime we try to assign a "main genre" to the artist. |

and wich of katatonia would you categorize then? I think it's ok to add the band and al the work it's done. Gives an before and after view. AND it makes you more careful not to add stupid bands for just 1 album.. |

^ Yeah, but you wouldn't add the whole stupid band, only that one Prog album.

That would not be that easy - maybe for Katatonia, but for other bands endless debates would begin about which of their albums are "worthy" of inclusion and which aren't. |

^ I don't know them well enough ... ask someone else. But Viva Emptiness is a cool album, and if you compare it to the other bands in the Avant/Post genre you'll find many similarities. It is not as progressive as those, I give you that. |

Veni Domini shouldn't be labeld as progressive.
One of the signs to a prog band is the use of odd time signatures. I have never hear a song of theirs with one, its all 4/4 and 6/8 (3/4). No 7/8, no 5/8. If you look at the major prog band, they have them. Yes, Rush, Dream Theater. Classical sounding synths a prog band does not make. B"H Brak |

Firstly 6/8 has nothing to do with 3/4, and secondly time signatures don't make prog either ![]() |

Insomnium...should be added to prog archives. Extreme progressive death metal band, similar to Opeth... Check out some samples here : http://www.insomnium.net/releases_since_day.htm I recommend "Disengagement" (8m39s), "The Day it All Came Down", "Daughter of the Moon", "Bereavement", "In the Halls of Awaiting" (10m55s)... |

I hope you're not talking about Insomnium? This excerpt was taken from their biography: Since the Day It All Came Down - continues the development that the first album began. Songs are more versatile and surprising, progressive influences are ever clearer. Some tracks may even be described as experimental. But the straightforward side of the music hasnīt gone anywhere, since catchy guitar-harmonies, crushing riffs and soothing acoustic interludes are all still there.
