Those two gone SD. My thoughts were the same as your MR. I ended up sending one of my "your review is a bit weak" e-mails to encourage the reviewer to think in a bit more depth when reviewing. In the e-mail i offer to delete the review to allow another to be submitted. |

Sorry for my delay in responding to the post. I've been thking about it a lot...my original thought. still stands. And I DO have proof of the guidelines I mentioned not being followed. EXHIBIT A: RUSH Hold Your Fire — "Hold Your Fire" contains songs thought for the execution live! Nevertheless is an excellent disc of AOR ( not Prog, POP or Hard Rock!). Is with this disc that I knowed the Rush and I should say that not the better manner was! However I do not regret in the to say that is not a disc that I would repurchase... If not pits of the Rush!
To the general public: Does this make ANY sense? Or...following that thread...how about this one? EXHIBIT B:
RUSH A Show of Hands (Live) Review (Permanent link) by Symphonic Age @ 4:24:05 PM EST, 6/17/2005 — The disc more Prog of the Rush is paradoxically a Live! I believe that "A Show Of Hands" contains some of the more large moments than the Prog have given us! Certainty the Live LP of the '80 I am in a lot of parts of the fake... But this maintains all the freshness of the better Live! ...Not i know if I explain myself!
Hmmmm...again....does anyone understand this? ANYONE? I'm referring to a guideline, so bear with me....here it is.
1 - Write in ENGLISH, we regret that we cannot accept reviews in other languages. Avoid the use of on-line translators wherever possible, they will not do justice to your efforts. Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in your reviews, standard sentence case should be used at all times. Do not use abbreviations or “texting” language. Remember to check your review for spelling, grammar and punctuation. A poorly presented review can distract the reader from the well written content. Reviews should be a MINIMUM 50 words preferably substantially more, no maximum. EasyLivin'....you mention respect. That's all fine and good...but how about respect for the BANDS we review? Yeah...we can rip and tear into their albums all we want to...but was/is it really necessary to post a "review" like this? EXHIBIT C:
RUSH Vapor Trails Review (Permanent link) by Hugues Chantraine @ 11:00:19 AM EST, 2/3/2004 SPECIAL COLLABORATION — 2,5 stars really!!!
OK ! So they are back! So what, you ask? This will allow them to make world tours and Live albums. Actually if this is not that a good record , I am very HAPPY that they did get back just for the sake of Peart's personal tragedies (who had lost a wife and daughter) and the fact that this had put Rush's career on hold so long. Nice to see them back in shape and it warms me very much to hear that Peart still has all of his great talent. As for the album , we have here one of the hardest sounding Rush album a bit in the vein of the previous Test For Echoes , but in this one there is a sense of energy and urgency/spontaneity I found absent in a lot of 90's Rush releases. But by all means , this first hour fan is still not convinced by such records , although I am awed that these guys are still playing so tight. Lifeson's ever present guitar riffs fills out this album and the keyboards have it seems definitely a lesser role than in their 80's albums which were defintely not much to my tastes! A return to form! Was mentioning Neil's tragedies at ALL pertinent to the review of the album? No, I think not. To prove it, I want to post this as well...
4 - Write in an intelligent and considerate manner. Rude or insulting language (including blatant vulgarity) will not be tolerated! Show respect for other reviewers, readers, the artists, and the CD and song titles. Do not belittle reviews posted by others, their opinions are as welcome and valid as yours. It is generally best to avoid commenting on other reviews altogether.
Tell me something...how can his comments NOT be rude and insulting? Check out that 1st paragraph.
As far as my being "selective"...darn right! It wasn't me who posted the guidelines, but it's me and other people who get nailed if the guidelines are broken. How about this: EXHIBIT D:
Or...better yet...try this one on for size.
EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (ELP) Works Vol. 1
Review (Permanent link) by Tony R @ 8:18:30 PM EST, 7/5/2005 SPECIAL COLLABORATION — I really love this album, from the ham-fisted keyboards to the twee vocals and from every over-blown piece of orchestration right up to the masterpiece of mirth that is Pirates. Long years in the making, due to ego clashes and arguments about makeup,Elton John being part of the recording process then not and finally producer Pete Waterman being replaced by Little Jimmy Osmond, the band finally got this meisterwerk out into the public consciousness.Once out there it was a smash, spending 16 weeks at Number One in Albania and going Quadruple Platinum in Belize. When one listens to Emerson's Piano Concertos one is immediately reminded of Les Dawson's egregious masterpieces of the early 70's.I can think of no higher praise than that. I find that "The Enemy God Dances With The Black Spirits" fills me with nostalgia,or should that be neuralgia? I'm not sure but I know that Mrs Palmer should have decided against that shiny red kit for young Carl's 6th Birthday.Pirates- what can I say?I nearly walked the plank the first time I heard this 13 minute epic.It sounds like the ungodly product of a demonic union between WS Gilbert and The Village People and is breath-taking in its excrutiating awfulness and willfull over-ambition.There is nothing like a great Prog Rock Album and this is nothing like a great Prog Rock Album
Hmmmm...seems to me like this is exactly like another review...I seem to recall a review of Rush's HEMISPHERES, if you guys would care to read it. Oh...hell with it...I'll simply cut and paste it. Here we go. RUSH Hemispheres Review (Permanent link) by Rich @ 2:38:41 AM EST, 7/6/2005 — I really love this album, from the ham-fisted guitar to the girlie vocals and from the over- blown concept right up to the masterpiece of mirth that is Cignus X-1 Book11. When one listens to Geddy Lee's bass one is immediately reminded of Chas n Dave's egregious masterpieces of the early 80's.I can think of no higher praise than that. I find that "La Villa Strangiato" fills me with nostalgia,or should that be neuralgia? I'm not sure but I know that Mrs Peart should have decided against that shiny red kit for young Neal's 6th Birthday.- what can I say? Cignus X-1 Book11 I nearly choked to death the first time I heard this 18 minute epic.It sounds like the ungodly product of a demonic union between WS Gilbert and The Village People and is breath-taking in its excrutiating awfulness and willfull over-ambition.There is nothing like a great Prog Rock Album and this is nothing like a great Prog Rock Album
I also recall another guidlines that seems to have not been followed...I think it's this one.
10 - Any impersonation of another reviewer will be treated as an abuse of the Prog Archives site, and the offender will be barred from further use of the site.
I've done nothing to tamper with these "reviews"...simply copied and pasted them.
To close..if you want to ban me from the site, I have absolutely NO problem with it. I can find somewhere more hospitable to post...somewhere that doesn't pick on the bands themselves and a place in which the reviews are easy to comprehend. Edited by sbrushfan |

Hi sbrushfan, I see no need to ban you from the site, you are quite entitled to your opinion. If a review does not comply with the guidelines, then I'll deal with it, banning someone because of a review would seem like a rather drastic step, and would only be taken as a last resort, perhaps due to constant abuse, etc. You may not be aware that I only took on moderating the reviews in July this year. Before that, it was done informally on a best efforts basis. I'm now working my way through the thousands of reviews posted before July 2005, and weeding out those which need dealt with. As I'm sure you will appreciate, this will take a long time to complete. I'll take a look at the reviews you've posted above, and if I think action is needed, I'll take it. I would make the point once again though, you cannot be selective in the rules you choose to subscribe to. Making a point about one rule by breaking another is hypocritical and not constructive. Instead of wasting your energy worrying about other people's reviews, why not show them how you think it should be done in your own? |

^Yes... "Drew" wrote and keeps writing crappy reviews, half are inappropriate. Is it the forum member Drew? Because I know he is a huge Rush fan... but from his posts he doesn't seem that crazy... If it's him, maybe warn him?

EasyLivin' (nice Uriah Heep refernce there, by the way)...I DO apologize for my moment of, shall we say..."shark jumping"....(where did I hear that?). I'm content that you've decided to hear this out, and not jump the gun as is MY wont. Thank you. And I DO agree with the others who feel that review should be deleted....I mention Drew in particular. (BTW...I DO hope I'm not crossing any boundaries.). Thank you.

http://www.progarchives.com/?reviewer=drew I tend to think it's him... A lot of high ratings for Rush, Porcupine Tree, and a lot of prog metal... As far as I know, that's in his interest. |

Ok guys this was only an annoying style but I believe it has gone too far:
If I want o see the song list I go to the album page, so this is absurd waste of valuable space.. I believe it's healthy to call the guy and if he doesn't change, delete all this math nonsense.
