As much as I love Gabriel-era Genesis (with exception of the debut), at the moment it is VdGG! My favourite prog band at the moment.
p.s.: Mr. Gabriel, if you read this: Make a Genesis reunion, bring out the long awaited "From Genesis To Re-Creation" album and you'll be my favourite band again

VDGG is a phenomenal band!
Genesis is still the "acrophobe" for as far as progressive rock goes...

bah, so easy. genesis... vdgg,eww.. can NOT stand them, NOT AT ALLLLLL!! crappiest voice, the guitar work is butt. if it wasnt for that sax guy, these guys would suck even more. which is pretty hard

I'd easily go for Van der Graaf Generator, they just had a much better album to album quality.
