FATES WARNING Perfect Symmetry
Review (Permanent link) by Achilles @ 6:18:10 PM EST, 10/23/2004

2 stars  —  I don't care if the album is technical. In my view it's a boring album.Prog metal without fantasy. All the songs look the same.i was told that this is the best album of Fates Warning. Surely the "pleasant shade of grey" is better than this. I don't recommend to buy it. You can use your money to buy albums that can open your horizons and not repress.

I dunno about this one, doesn't really mention the album, just says that another is better. What do you think?

MR. I've e-mailed Brain damage a couple of times. At lest he now says "released" instead of "announced". I'm building a list of his reviews which just cannot be understood, and will take action later. It's a pity, because he clearly has a wide range of prog albums, or access to them.

As far as the Prog Lucky reviews are concerned, I've asked M@X to look at extending the suppression of reviews with less than 200 characters to the collaborators section too. At the moment there is an inconsistency there. Bear in mind though that the guidelines have been developed alot since those reviews were written.

=====

Thanks SD, I'll look at that one.Wink

ULVER* Blood Inside
Review (Permanent link) by Shane Bailey @ 2:13:57 PM EST, 11/7/2005

3 stars  —  I saw this album posted here. Part of me wanted to cry out loud, part of me wanted to gasp, and part of me wanted to bitch at you guys! Guess which part of me won out...

Who had the temerity to list Ulver here? Ulver is a Satanic death/black metal group, not prog, not Canterbury, not "sympho", not any other classification you'd like. How do I know this? Simply because I own all their albums. There is not a SINGLE TRACE o fprog in any of their black/death dealings. Useful_Idiot, you really ARE an idiot. Damn...if this is how far the Archives have fallen...

If this was a METAL site, it'd get 5. As this is PROGarchives, it gets three.

I sympathise, really I do - except with calling UI an Idiot.

*exterminate!!!*

Say what you will, Certified, but that's how I feel.  A review is how you feel about an album, isn't it?    BUT...you know what gets me fired up even more?  Reading these reviews by people like Gatot Widyanto, Hugues Chantraine, braindamage, and God know who else...these "reviews" are nothing more than meaningless wanderings by people who obviously don't speak  English, at least not as a 2nd language.  Gripe at me all you want, peeps, but read ONE of his reviews (Gatot's, with the 2 or 3 pages) and tell me that those are well-writen reviews.  COME ON!!!!!  He's missing words, things are hard to understand or make out...it's senseless!  How is it that he's held in such high regard?  One of the guidelines to writing reviews is that English must be used.  I don't know what he's using, but it DARN sure ain't English.

Another thing...while I'm fired up, how about those reviews for Rush's "Vapor Trails"?  Hugues Chantraine and muzik_luvr both demonstrate a smallness for other's grief, which dominates those reviews and puts both reviewers in an arrogant, shallow light.  FIX IT ALREADY!!!!!!

BY THE WAY....if you want, you can kick me off Archives...I don't care.  I'm tired of reading these reviews that make no sense.

Some world views are spacious, and some are merely spaced...

sbrushfan

You appear rather selective in the guidelines you wish to observe and which you demand observance of. What about the respect for fellow reviewers guideline?

The fact is that Gatot Widyanto, and Hugues Chantraine are highly respected reviewers on this site. If you don't enjoy their reviews that is up to you. I do not agree with your comments about their command of English. Even if I did, this is an international site and we wish to be as inclusive as we can practically be.

I have deleted your review above as it clearly breaches the guidelines. You have not reviewed that album at all, and your attack on a fellow member is unacceptable. You are quite at liberty to discuss whether or not any band should be listed on the site, but the forum is the place for that discussion, not the reviews section.

AXCRAFT Dancing Madly Backwards
Review (Permanent link) by Jim Mc Lellan @ 8:00:40 PM EST, 10/14/2005

4 stars  —  Even though I was the lead singer for Axcraft, I can truthfully say that the album is nowhere near great. But that does not mean that it's not worth owning or at least listening. The group has never been paid any royalties, even though it's being sold worldwide on the AKARMA album label which is owned by Bill Holmes. I plan to make some changes on the album and distribute it myself. I am also in the process of releasing a second Axcraft album from tapes that are in my possesion. So try and hold out for my reissue of the first Axcraft album, ( DANCING MADLY BACKWARDS), and the soon to be released second album. Oh yeah, the album is worth listening to, and we were a very good band, to bad outside influences got in the way.

I could be wrong. sorry if I am.

Cygnus, those comments are only visible if you search for a reviewer by name (now why would you be searching for Robert?WinkLOL).

I've asked M@X to look at sorting it for consistency.

Hey! That's a bit unnecessary... I would like to see you write reviews in French, or in Finnish language or whatever. The day you can handle that without making any mistakes, then you will have the right to criticize our reviews.

3 stars   You took the name Dancing Madly Backwards from Captian Beyond. WTF? Thats so un- original. Make up something of your own and don't talk about how good you were.

The music isn't bad, just try to be more orignal.

2 stars   US drummer Joe Castanuela was a drummer before his time with beats and rthymes that came out later in the 80's. A truely misjudged drummer with the abiltity to not only read well but reconize rthymes before they were popular. Drummers such as Pomer, Buddy Rich and Max Roach knew his abilities and was upset when he decided to stop playing. "Rolling Stone Mag. 1985. article: What ever happen to Castanuela

He only talks about the drummer, and nothing about the album itself..
