I only know Kuusumun Profeetta out of this list, but that's a tough one. Although they are prog IMO, it's very difficult to categorize them...

Blåkulla is clearly Folk.

It reminds me of the movie of the end 60s, beginning 70s Blackula. The black countermovie of Dracula. So that could be more Prog Metall.
Nice to judge bands only by their name. That is an original way to categorise the genres.

Who are these bands?

These bands are mainly unknown band from  japan or from scandinavia(including Finland and Iceland).
All of them make good music, but some of them are quite obscure. Giles, McDonald and Muir should be knows by the most of you.

Arild Anderson: Might be considered jazz, but have a lot of prog-elements. Norwegian.

Blå Tåget: Old swedish band, singing in english and english. Kind of a mix of canterburry, jazz and hippie-music. You should check this out. Great music.

Blåkulla: Typical 70\s swedish prog, singing in swedish. Recomended to fans of Kaipa and flower kings. Quite heavy prog-rock, a mix of symphonic prog, folk and classic rock. This is a must have!!

Claudio Rocchi: Ietalian musician. Realy hard to categorize, but sounds great.

Giles - Muir: Giles and muir. Together. enough said.

Hallelujah: If I remember corectly, these guys are Australian. Quote Gentle Giant-alike, without the multiple  vocals. Also a bit heavier, and with a touch of genesis.

Hideo Yamaki: A japanese drummer. Among the best ut there. Lyrics in japanese. Essential for drummers and percusionists.

Ian McDonald:

Koichi Yabori: Greeeeat guitarist. Kind ofd jazzy, but still prog. Absoloutly amazing.

Kuusumun Profeetta: Finnish band, hard to categorize as mentioned above. Mellow, acoutic prog with sax.

Made In Sweden: Swedish band. Imagine Fripp moving to Canterbury, and teaming up Christian Vander. Guess a lot of you guy would have loved this band.

Magga Stina: From iceland. Sounds like Björk on dope, with a lot of electronic elements, accordion, bongodrums and Magga stina herself screaming and playing the violin. This is weird stuff.

Qoph: Swedish band. sounds lika a progressive metal band playing symph rock with a lot of blues inspiration. Realy great. This is a band all of you should check out.

Sensational Alex Harvey Band: Blues rock with prog elements. One of the best stage perormers ever. Has a sax in it.

Thule: Norwegians from as far north as it gets. Not that good, mostly because of the vocals. A mix of metal and space-prog, I guess.

Ure Thrall and the fruitless hand: Just a lot of scary weird noises, all electronic. a Mix of Phaedra and Goblin, jut even weirder. Guess this goes in the electronic prog-department.

Wha-ha-ha: This is the hardest to categorize,as it has elements of all generes in it. Japanese band, with happy music. You should checkthis out if you're not afraid of new music. Very progressive. Found a website where they were described as exprimental post-rio dub-fusion..... That is a weird category!

European jazz diva surely, appears on ECM Records and others. Prefer Sidsel Endresen, especially her work with Bugge Wesseltoft (and why not mention of his name or Nils Petter Molvaer or EST or Food..................).

Blå Tåget (formerly known as Gunder Hägg) have never sung in English as far as I know. They were a political (left wing) band with poetic, often clever and humorous lyrics. They started in the late 60s, re-united in the late 90s and disbanded last year. I kind of like their music. It's an eclectic mix of jazz, folk, vaudeville and blues/pop/rock, mostly acoustic with lots of wind instruments (sax, trombone, clarinet etc.). Their lyrics are always the main focal point, the music is often a bit awkward.

Great band!! The opening track of their debut Togerkakan, from when they were named Gunder Hägg is sung in english, as is "smoking" from the same record. The rest is sung in swedish.

I belive they had a hit wich some punk band covered sometime.

By Ian McDonald, do you mean the one album he made with Michael Giles? If so I guess It's in the same vain as early King Crimson, should be Symphonic Prog then.

I mean his "drivers eye"- album. Dont remember who else plays at it at the moment, but I don't think Muir partisipated.

Ian McDonald was a founder member of both King Crimson and Foreigner and the writer, with Peter Sinfield, of the seminal "In The Court of The Crimson King". He's seen at his chameleon best on this self-produced debut solo outing, fronting a lineup that includes Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Lou Gramm (Foreigner), John Waite (The Babys), Peter Frampton, Steve Hackett, John Wetton (King Crimson/UK/Asia), Mike Giles (King Crimson) and Pete Sinfield (King Crimson). On the blockbuster closing track "Let There Be Light" that magic McDonald/Sinfield combination, regarded by many as the real spirit behind the original King Crimson, is as potent as ever and shows that neither have lost their dramatic touch. This first solo album will be eagerly sought by followers of both those bands and aficionados of the long lost seventies classic "McDonald & Giles" album.
