I've been a big fan of Shadow Gallery for quite some time. Got all their albums. I wouldn't say Legacy is the weakest. I'd go as far to say its one of their strongest. "First light" is incredible and Cliffhanger 2 is just supreme.
The reason why they aren't all that well known is because they've never performed properly live together, and they have their own day-jobs.

I received a lot of undeserved praise here - it takes very little to stand up for someone on the Internet. Still, thank you, Progmaniaczka and Eugene . It's also good to have the situation cleared up and to see that no harm had been intended or done.
Re Shadow Gallery, I really like "Legacy" and if the other albums are even better... well...
Are they great in a more objective meaning of the word? Probably not. "Legacy" has its flaws, for example I still fail to hear an organising principle in "First Light" (sorry, Bionic Commando), to me it just sounds like a few very good, but unrelated songs glued together quite arbitrarily. And yeah, from the admittedly very little I heard by Birdsongs of the Mezozoic, they are a tough act to beat. It's no wonder that Shadow Gallery can pale in comparison. But this doesn't really change my attitude towards them.

I love Shadow Gallery. The first album i heard from them was Tyranny and i just loved every bit of it. Legacy was alright too, but i find Room V to be just amazing. They really broke the formula that they had been using in the past.

Shadow Gallery?
Nope, sorry. Bought one album and sold it back after 3 listens.
Maybe I'm missing something...but I don't think so.

I heard the debut album a couple a weeks ago, as well as Carved In Stone. I liked both and have ordered 3 albums by them (Shadow Gallery, Carved In Stone, Tyranny)

I found "Carved In Stone" in a cutout bin in an outlet mall 2 years ago.
It didn't impress me then. I'll give it another go.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

OK. I listened to it this morning. It's not quite as bad as I remembered. But not great.
Kind of like Kansas around the time of "Power". Mundane songwriting with flashes of interesting instrumentation. It doesn't suck, but I wonder why anyone could worship these guys.

If I hate the song Legacy, does that mean I will probably dislike the rest of Shadow Gallery's stuff?

The first SG CD I heard was Carved in Stone and I will not lie if I say that that changed my life. Since then on I love Shadow Gallery...
It's my favorite band, I have all thier CD and I confess I am a Hard Core Die Fan!

Don't base your opinion on their earlier work. They have matured quit a bit into an amazing band.Try the concept album Tyranny, the story from that album is continued on their newest release Room V(a brilliant cd ).

I have grown sick and tired of allmost all the progmetal groups, but for some reason I love Shadow Gallery. Discovered them when I saw that Labrie had a litle part on the tyrany album. From that day I had a new favourite.

Great band! I was so impressed with 'Room V' that I now wish I had checked them out before. I think it was because I didn't see any of their albums in stores but I had read good things about them. They kinda remind me of what made Dream Theater so good before, especially now that DT aren't so good anymore...
