I can only imagine would it must've been like to buy this record at a store, on the day of its release, and take it home, listening to it for the first time, with no previous knowledge of its awesomeness or future legendary status...

Red truly is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Why, when I first got it I listened to it for a month straight.

I didn't know it was legendary when I bought it, I just knew that it was supposed to be good.  I heard it for the first time about 15 years ago, the second KC album I'd ever heard (ITCOTCK was the first and I wasn't impressed at the time).  Now, I'd rank it among my top 10 favorite albums of all time.

Red being one of my first albums by King Crimson and prog music in general, i found it really interesting and excelent piece of work. heck, if it wasn't for Red maybe I wouldn't be in here talking to you
thanks Red.......but still... when i heard ITCOTCK i fell in love with King Crimson and left Red in the dust for quite some time

Red is an incredible album though I would take Lark's Tongues in Aspic over
it.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

Yeah, you're right- but at the time I was young and stupid and just thought it was an awesome album.

I think that "Red" is best of their official studio albums (though theres one live track on it). Some of their live recordings from that line-up, which were released officially later, are still better musically, though they have a bit poorer sound quality!

Red has very good music on it. I loved it from the very first notes. It was immediately: "wow"!

I agree. Red is excellent but Lark's Tongues had a bigger impact on me.

The album is OK but personally I prefer music that is faster and not so depressing.
