^ About the Lengsel website: Currently they have no audio files there, so I didn't link their website. But I'll link to all homepages tomorrow and use a symbol to show whether there are samples or not.

Sorry Logos, of course I know what you mean. I was only pointing out that they don't have a Black attitude - I forgot that this thread in particular is meant to discuss the music.
BTW: Shouldn't they be called a "white and life" band instead? |
Yes, they probably should. I like their attitude and especially their lyrics, not at all too preachy.
Nice to see Extol on the list!

Yeah their site says "sound" "to be added" but that site hasnt been updated for a long time.

BTW: Helge Schneider is one of the most brilliant Jazz pianists from Germany. It's quite bizarre to hear his name mentioned on a prog website in a thread about prog metal. |
I meant his sytle of singing. EGO EIMI's way of singing reminds me very strong of Helge Scheider.

Edit: My announcement seems to have caused some confusion and opposition among a few members (especially the Baldies). Let me just point out that I by no means meant prog-metal is the only genré that needs to be reworked; on the contrary, I think other genrés like symphonic and art-rock need an overhauling too; but these are genrés I feel not competent for.

Mike, we never doubted your good intentions, and if we (unintentionally) came across too harsh in our criticism , we apologize to anyone who felt hurt by it.
And now let's shake hands.

I sincerely doubt any single person could tackle the rather gargantuanic task of reorganising smyphonic or art-rock; not only because lack of time, but also because lack of knowledge. The sheer amount of artists in these genrés makes it almost impossible to know them all.

I like your approach of applying multiple genres to artists. I wouldn't replace the genres by such a mechanism (there we differ), but we could use such an approach to do some brainstorming that others could join. The first step would of course be to create a list of attributes - for early prog only, to start with.

The Black Mages are a progressive influenced metal band from Japan. The
band includes Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for the Final Fantasy series.
The is generally derived from Uematsu's work with the Final Fantasy
series (one exception thus far), but there are usually modifications
and additions to the songs to make them more interesting.
The band has two guitarists, and organist, a keyboardist, a bassist,
and a drummer. They have no vocalists, though they have a couple of
guest vocalists on their most recent album.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Mages cites them as having an overall progressive metal style.
Four total music samples can be found here:

^ Great suggestion ... I added them to the Neo Prog Metal category. From the sample I heard they might also be Power Metal based, but I'd have to hear a complete album to be sure.
