Is the IP-adress also checked along with the name?
Or could it motivate people to register here? |

I believe the IP address is part of the check. In any case, it will soon be a requirement that you register with the site before posting reviews. |

Great news about having to register to review - about time This is a long "review" - but it doesn't say anything about the album, it just has a go at people who don't appreciate it, and what a jolly good job TMV are doing - it's more an appraisal of the band than the album. A forum post, methinks...
MARS VOLTA, THE "Frances The Mute" ![]() Anyone who expects a classic prog-rock album from these guys will be sorely disappointed, yes Storm Thorgerson/Hipgnosis did the art, yes there are multi part epics, yes there is wild variation in dynamics/tempos, but remember the album was recorded in 2004, not 1974. It is therefore completely ridiculous to compare it to albums and standards from the classic prog era. I'm talking those who complain that only kids and 'fanboys' could possibly dig this as they are the only ones 'immature' enough to like it. This is elitist claptrap. Mars Volta are as prog as you can get in 2005 without being a throwback or revivalist group, they are trying to do something new and injecting life into a tired genre (and selling a lot of records too). For this progressive fans need to be thankful as TMV will bring new fans and interest to the genre which has in the last couple of decades become marginalised an irrelevant to the majority of rock music listeners out there. Remember if you want the music you like to grow and continue, new people may actually have to listen and contribute. I think TMV help in this regard. Mars Volta can play their instruments, there may not be a virtuoso in the band but does there need to be? They can write intricate and engaging songs that are simultaneously difficult and listenable (i.e Cygnus... or the closing Cassandra... epic). Not an easy thing to do (though they do get lost from time to time in the noisy bridging sections). They can also write a decent pop song (the Widow), and of course thats the entry point for new fans. There's plenty to like here, it may not be 'old school' but it's pretty good. Nonetheless one must keep in mind that times have changed, bands of today have a much different musical upbringing to those of the classic era. Remember Mars Volta came from a punk/hardcore background (anathema to many of the readers here, yes?) so their approach will be different (ATDI sounded like a pumped up Fugazi to me - which is not a bad thing at all), celebrate this difference. Isn't that the point of progressive rock, to progress? to incorporate a wide range of influences and ideas into a new, challenging and creative whole... perhaps not be stuck in the strictures of 1974, to use ideas that others wouldn't, like TMV do. I find it odd that the self-proclaimed 'true' progressive fans seemingly don't want the genre to change, develop - to progress. This conservatism is the opposite of art and creativity, this emasculates the genre and makes it irrelevant when it's reason for being is gone. "Frances the Mute" should be lauded for bringing progressive music back to the general consciousness and expanding the audience it has. TMV are good, not yet great. But they could be. Give it a go. |

AMON DÜÜL II Only Human
Review (Permanent link) by Lars Kristian Larsen @ 8:54:50 AM EST, 4/17/2005 5 stars — Try at least to get the line-up right. It is Klaus Ebert and NOT Erik Ebert that is playing Guitar and bass. Another truely supperb album by Amon Düül 2. Especially Don't Turn Too Stone and Spaniards & Spacemen. If you don't have it already, go buy it. No real info on the album, attacking another reviewer, reporting error within "review" which is not appropriate thing to do... not a review at all! |

This may be a bit of a novelty, but I'm requesting my own review to be removed. As you can see, its quite stupid and unjust, as I didnt properly listen to the album, so therefore its uninformative and misleading and kinda embarassing too, so I'd like it removed pls CAMEL Mirage ![]() And also, while I'm at it, take a look at this guy
CAMEL Mirage

Hi Pafnutij
Can you PM (private message) me with the e-mail address you would have put on your review. It's just so that I can validate it's really you asking for the deletion. ![]() |

Easy Livin, If you want to replace the Spanish text of Muhammad Al Fatil's review of "Mirage", rather than just deleting it, then here is a translation, as it seems a shame to delete it. This does not seem to me to be an immortal work of progressive rock. If it is, I consider that it is only because it is one of those accessible and easily-digestible discs that help those who are not familiar with the genre to know its main parameters because, if it is full of something, this disc is full of clichés. Structurally and musically not much new was contributed here: the keyboard and guitar solos are strongly reminiscent of the Canterbury bands, especially the first CARAVAN ( Latimer's voice is very reminiscent of Richard Sinclair's voice, who would later join CAMEL), although I must recognize that the band shows an enviable musical guarantee and musicianship that cannot be refuted - the fact that they are not very original is another story. My favourite themes are 'Supertwister' and 'Nimrodel'. But I think that CAMEL giving of its best does not manage to place itself in the first division of progressive rock, that elite group in which I place GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, YES, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, ELP or JETHRO TULL... Perhaps I discovered them too late... "Mirage" is a pioneer disc, for that reason the three stars.

No, records good from as reviewer says. Takes knock, but recovers center of mat. Not to delete, but to allow in now form. Sense of hardness in eye of prog, not of exist. Disks internet require understanding not lolling in "quite hard." |
