I saw them live a couple of months ago in Bergen, Norway at a metal festival named Hole In The Sky. I'm a huge fan of their studio albums, but their live performance was lacking somewhat imo. They played well enough, but it didn't seem to me like they had any "fire" in them, if you know what I mean. Michael Åkerfeldt claimed he was sick that night, maybe that was the reason why they were a little off... but it could've been better.

3 out of 5 stars for their live performance that night.

The sense of Opeth disappointing somewhat only got strengthened the next night, when Nile (egyptian-themed death metal band) completely owned the stage with a tremendous performance, the best concert I've ever seen regardless of genre. When you get the crowd to sing along at a death metal concert, you know you're witnessing something unique.

They get better each time I see them (have three Opeth shows under my belt). Mikael is entertaining between songs as well.

This tour they are slightly lacking, "slightly, only because Martin Lopez is not behind the kit. They have another death metal drummer filling in. He isn't Lopez, but still very capable.

I believe it's a rare blood disease that is keeping him from touring, but I'm not 100% sure.

Correct Diagnosis: In their news section they specifically say that it is due to his blood.

I saw them when they came down to Australia last year. It was great! They don't go crazy or anything, but they don't stand still either. The music is twice enjoyable live as it is on the albums and i was able to get right into it, especially Blackwater Park!
