Has anyone heard ex-XTC/League of Gentlemen keyboardist Barry Andrews Shriekback from the early to mid 1980's?

They have often been described as a new wave/dance band. I agree and disagree  Their album   Oil and Gold, while danceable was very, very dark and proggish at times and very, very cool. Big Night Music was not quite as dark, but still cool. And yes... they covered KC and the Sunshine Band's Get Down Tonight...but it was even cool. Check them out if you haven't already.

I remember them - very experimental, though usually with a fairly danceable beat underpinning it all. There were some pretty interesting singles - I used to have the 12" versions of All Lined Up and My Spine is the Bass Line. I don't know that I'd call them proggish, but there was quite an avant garde element to their sound which would appeal to the more open minded prog fan.
