I already am awaer of the major names like Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Spocks Beard, The flower Kings, Jadis and a couple of others but can people recommend me some good, modern prog bands to try out PLEASE!

Well through this site I've tried and would recommend:
Porcupine Tree - Sky Moves Sideways; The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute or Deloused in the Comatorium Tool - Lateralus ...I bought them in UK shops (HMV or Virgin I think) |

You should like The Devouring by Djam Karet if you like the bands you mentioned. The problem could be where to find it today? Ebay?

Listen to Hamster Theaters "Carneval Denoument", for a totally new take on progressive, combined with elements of modern classical and eastern folk, somehow very accesible.

The new Sigur Ros album should be available in many stores ... also the new albums by Riverside, Roine Stolt and Neal Morse. |

Grab a copy of Cautionary Tales For the Brave by Pure Reason Revolution.
Quite possibly the 2nd best album released this year. Cheers, Simon |

With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with. |

Maybe you can follow the new releases of prog publisher record labels like InsideOut,old Magna Carta vs. Then reviews and comments are useful also. Otherwise, counting group names don't meet your needs because there are so much subgenres and different sounds, approaches vs.. |

You should listen to Disco Volante (1995) from Mr. Bungle. As it is the only album I own of this group, I can't tell if it is their best, but I can tell you that Disco Volante is a album that impressed me and surprised me at each and every song. Only to give you an idea, we can find on this album heavy distortioned metal, jazz fusion like Zappa, many strange voices and disturbing sounds, kind of middle eastern techno, some italian/spanish folk, .... sometimes in the same song !!!
