If you don't believe me, listen to Edge of Sanity and early Tiamat (perhaps even Porcupine Tree - and some people hear a Samael connection as well, and while they're good I don't, really.), and you'll find a good deal of the blueprint of the first few albums of Opeth's catalogue (although Ghost Reveries comes into its own more, for sure). Some food for thought , and I've surely missed out plenty

Speaking of Tyranny, does anyone like the band Tyranny? Nothing to do with prog, but they're what My Dying Bride would sound like if they were heavy (and good* ). Top notch doom metal.
