— After playing this CD hundreds of times (many stoned) I have come to the opinion that its over rated yes ... brilliant perhaps compared to great CD`s like Yes ...Close to the Edge or King Crimsons ..Court of the Crimson King, Dark side probably falls short however that said its still enjoyable my only problem with it is its to commercial and its the engineering that makes its so popular not so much the material (pink floyd are not progressive rock thats a joke) they are a glorified blues band with simple time signatures and depressing lyrics (not very profound) but still I prefer these guys to the beatles anyday!


I don't have problems with someone rating DSOTM 2 stars, as long as he/she provides some valuable arguments for doing so.

When judging the reviews, we the collaborators should check whether the text of a review is actually giving any valuable facts, arguments, opinions, feelings or reactions of a listener, rather than trying to "catch" how many stars is given. This is especially difficult when we notice a bad or stupid or inappropriate review of the album we personally love or highly regard.
Ideally, I would be the most objective when judging a review of an album I never heard before or even of the artist unknown to me. It is hard to be objective when you see a bad review with 2 stars of FLOYD "Dark Side" which I like very much! Is it possible to write an excellent negative review of "Dark Side..." or "Close to the Edge" for instance and give it 1 star? IMO it is, but it must be very intelligent and unorthodox one! Nothing is perfect in this world, but the question is does the Site need that kind of reviews?   
Even highly original and humorous and extravagant reviews even if they do not offer a standard description of an album, would be desirable IMO if they reflect in original manner the facts of the album itself or the circumstances of its recording. Just for thought...

Symphonic Prog (Studio Album, 1969) KING CRIMSON "In the Court of the Crimson King" Review (Permanent link) by ProgressiveVoyage @ 7:09:16 AM EST, 10/20/2005    King Crimson began their days as a variety act led by Robert "Tony Visconti" Fripp known as "King Crimson And His Amazing Coconuts". Fripp was well-known for opening his concerts by saying, "I'm King Crimson, and these are my Coconuts!" A few years later, the band was railroaded by John "Moneyman" Wetton, who forced them to smash their wind instruments and go totally metal. This made Fripp so tired that he went into a deep sleep for five years. When he woke up, he found that a curse had been placed on him that would cause any band he touched to become King Crimson. The first and only victim of this curse was the Talking Heads. Fripp now wears rubber gloves, and it apparently counteracts the effect quite well. But this is a masterpiece, so buy it! ;)

RIO/Avant-Prog (Studio Album, 1975) ZAPPA, FRANK "One Size Fits All " Review (Permanent link) by ProgressiveVoyage @ 7:03:58 AM EST, 10/20/2005    Zappa's later career is most well known for his work, The Invention of Mothers in which he traces, in poetic form, the role of Satan in the fall of Eve and therefore in the beginning of sexual reproduction in humans. Zappa has a lot of followers in stavanger, a space-colony of Norway. Essential !!!!!

Zeuhl (Studio Album, 1973) MAGMA "Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh" Review (Permanent link) by ProgressiveVoyage @ 6:52:41 AM EST, 10/20/2005    Magma in their best performance! The token communist album, a title often attributed to their later (unrehearsed) album, Rebuild the Wall. This album got banned in the United States for being communist and Satan Worship. They got Anton Levey to talk on the album, and he talks about evil Satan stuff while they play scary music. Essential a masterpiece of progressive music!

   What can I say for this album.It's my fav PROG album and i think that should be in top 5 albums of all time!Camel's best album with amazing compositions!The very good Freefall in which band plays INCREDIBLY!!Then the atmospheric Supertwister whenever i hear it i cry.Nirmodell is UNBELIEVABLE prog song then the heavy Earthrise and finally Lady Fantasy THE BEST PROG SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
