I personally prefer Rick Wright to Rick Wakeman or Keith Emerson: he's not a virtuoso, but he is able to set the mood and the ambience, which the other two often fail to do.

Nick Mason for me ,he was one of greta drummers in 70's with the double pedal Ludwig drums,in Live in Pompeii and Boston Gardens 75,he is one of gods with a stronger kick drum.

Years of Mason with his moustache,LoL!

Nick Mason was a good drummer. To feel a song is IMO more important than technical skills. The less-is-more principle of Mason is not so easy as most people think it is.

Bravo Nick

Bill Bruford is maybe the best example of a drummer with great technical skills combined with a perfect sense for feel.

Late to this thread but I agree with its gist. Nick's drumming, while not technically impressive, was big, bold, and fit the music perfectly.

His bread and butter is that big drum intro lick he plays (perhaps overplays) on many many Floyd songs, with some slight variations, and usually comes right before the vocals kick in after an extended instrumental part: Bump...bump...badudduhbumpaduh. Think Echoes, Time, Sheep, and many other Floyd classics.

Hey, you know what my theory is about why Floyd sounded better at Live 8 than on P.U.L.S.E? 'Cause Nick was in charge of the drumming.

And sorry Ivan, I just can't agree that Graham Broad sounds better. He doesn't sound anything like Nick, and PF doesn't work the same way without him. (Likewise any other member)

You need to work further on your use of capitals (I not i, names must start with a capital and so must sentences). You is not spelt u. Yours has an "s" on the end.

He has a very orchestral sound, and he drums as he were the percussionist in an orchestra.
