Golden Earring

While walking near the downtown district in Amsterdam one night a few years back, a crowd of people were coming out of a small theater.  I thought a movie was letting out, but then I saw the posters and flyers strewn everywhere.....it was a Golden Earring concert!  The band played a week long stint at the theater and I caught two shows.  Great stuff....they're from Holland, I believe, and the crowd absolutely loved it!  Was never a big fan of their LPs, but the live show was really entertaining.  They played "Twilight Zone" twice in a row at one show....the audience DEMANDED it!

Barry does write some great lyrics.

Switch cd is shorter tracks in the rock vein.Still very good.

I grew up with The Golden Earring because I was so proud that they came from my hometown The Hague. Rinus Gerritsen and Georg Kooymans had a music-store, Barry Hay is said to have conquered more chics than Gene Simmons and Cecar Zuiderwijk still gives drum lessons in The Hague. I'm really delighted about the warm and enthousiastic attention for The Golden Earring in this topic from so many collaborators. I consider them as prog-related but they also released a lot of popprog and poprock. A song like Back Home (great fllute) could have been from Jehtro Tull but many other songs contain progressive elements and lots of good musical ideas, they were excellent songwriters and Barry Hay (born in India and speaking fluently English) is a very good singer.
