My vote goes to Vander Graff Generator, Hands down, no contest, Infact without even thinking.

Polls like this should be outlawed.

What logical reason is there for comparing these two?  They're two completely different bands, appealing to differing sectors of the prog-listening community (although there are people who like both).  Personally I prefer Dream Theater, but that's because my tastes lean towards metal.

Why don't we compair cabbages with gulls?
What have to deal DT with VdGG?(I don't mean one is better than other, it's just completely different)

 - Nice point, mate

Don't see any relation between these bands too...

The only thing that DT and VDGG have in common is the complexity! Otherwise: completely different.

----------

Though i rate some DT albums higher than VDGG's, my vote goes to VDGG cause they are rather underrated sometimes and deserves more respect.

YtseJammer Polls are intended to stimulate discussion. I notice you have started a few recently, but have not offered your own opinions, and reasons for them. How about sharing them with us?

VDGG. Or is this a trick question?

One of the easiest polls I've ever answered- VDGG without a shadow of a doubt, every time.

VDGG cannot be tied down to any one genre, plus their influences are hard to decipher too- the epitome of true progressive music. Every album is a masterpiece.

DT, whilst I like what they do, would probably not have even existed without Metallica, Rush or Yes.

Van Der Graaf by far ¡¡¡

I still don´t know what is "Dream" doing in this site. What is it with prog fans to keep adding bands to the prog world for small moments of "more experimental", and "less conventional" music than normal  in their discography?. Dream Theatre to me is a great solid and powerful metal band with just more diversity in their sound and structure than other metal bands.

I recently heard Pain of salvation - "Used". ...Now, that is cheesy and intentional prog ¡¡. It just sounds so forced and with such a lack of conviction I was about to be sick. music like that start coming out when criticts say Metal can be considered "Better metal" if it is prog. This song I´m talking about is plain Metal, some sort of Pantera´s Metal. No better or any different at all. Then, they suddenly present this mellow, melodic ballad moment with no justification whatsoever. ...OH PLEASE ¡¡¡. Don´t tell me that is not "intentional prog" ¡¡¡.

Now, Dream is nothing close to that "cheesy" metal, but it´s not anywhere near that feeling of true prog like "Lizard", "Foxtrot", "Tarkus", etc. Please consider Dream a metal band and let them feel proud for making the best metal ever.

About the Van Der Graaf vs. Dream issue, ...Well, I can´t think of anythig as original, bizarre, and with so deep textures as " Sleepwalkers" in any "Dream" album.
