Hi!

The subject is lyrics.

Let's post the weirdest lines in prog.

Here are my picks:

"Still you and Jones go madder, broken bones, broken ladder, Hey ho."
King Crimson - Indoor Games

"She was a mink handjob in sarcophagus heels."
The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini

"And rearrage your liver to the solid mental grace." (I know this one means to abstain from alcohol)
Yes - Close To The Edge

"Little minute gong coughs and clears his throat." (Genius)
Syd Barrett - Octopus

"Flicker, flicker, flicker, bam. Pow! Pow! Stairway scare Dan Dare who's there?" (Now, that's the acid talking)
Pink Floyd - Astronomy Domine

Many words by Genesis. But just an example that of course, we all know:

"If you go down to Willow Farm,
to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,
like the fox on the rocks,
and the musical box.
Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.

There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag,
he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg,
the egg was a bird.
Hadn't you heard?

Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese,
and wonderfully clean in the morning."
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

Probably the weirdest lyrics i've come across in prog are those of Faust.

"You are a fruit fork"

"It's only a garden made of sandwich
Marshmallows jumping around and smiling quiet"

Forever I wanted
Still, lifeless and empty
The shadow of you
To lie on
The bridal couch
Where you laughed
Astonished
Minding the tales
Bizarre and contorted
I told you every night
Prior to submitting
To the empire of the dark

-> from devil doll's sacrilege of fatal arms

A mass of gallon sloth
As flys have walls for feet
A rapturous verbatim-someone said but who is to know
And when you find the fringe
The one last hit that spent you
You'll find the ossuary spilling by the day

The iconoclastic had it coming for years
They know the prisons that you have yet to fear
Where thumbs hide inside of sleepingbag mouths
Adlib your memoires by casting a drought

AWESOME LYRICS!!!

But what the hell do they mean?  I don't mind vague lyrics, but these (which I'm assuming are from the Mars Volta) seem like a bunch of words thrown together.

i can admit that the lyrics to de-loused in the comatorium might be a bit hard to comprehend without the decoder...but i think that the lyrics in frances the mute although they might seem to be a bit strange is alot easier to understand as it is not a strange story of a world inside Cerpin's taxt's head, it is infact real life.

The last song Take the veil cerpin taxt is suggesting that he went somewhere else in his afterlife...but if you put your mind to it the mars volta's lyrics is quite understandable once you have figured out the basics

"hammer hammer hammer hammer schmooze schmooze schmooze schmooze"

"shuffle shuffle shuffle shuffle yawn yawn yawn"

       The White Cane Fandango

The White Cane Fandango in Morse code,
try to shake through the message,
shake the load;
only venial sin, running on the spot
till the dance begins.

Where does a man go when the muscles cramp?
Try to write out a postcard on a postage stamp
with a drawing pin punching out the Braille
for the whole within?

Upset the contango on your future stock;
paying backwardation, hold onto what you've got -
such a sideways grin!
Some day you may need
to trade that in.

"West is Mike and Susie"
VDGG - Refugees

I searched and found that Mike and Susie shared one flat with Peter Hammill, but still this line doesn`t seem to make any sense to me.

The flat was in West Kensington, if that helps.
