I dislike "Knots" as well, I think the studio version of "Knots" was a
bit too pretentious and dissonant even for Gentle Giant. However,
Having seen seen "Excerpts from Octopus" live, the "Knots" segment is
quite a technical feat. "River" and "Boys in the Band" best
tracks (rubedo's opinion)

I've always loved Raconteur Trobadour the best. Especially the trumpet/violin section!

I voted River. I also like Boys in the Band. And Knots. Actually, I don't love Troubadour, though.

Knots is great, but On Reflection is SO much better. It's like a more developed version of Knots. |
good call on 'On Reflection'
Advent of Panurge for myself, with the other 7 songs in a tie for second.

Oh, my favourite album, ever....
Every track is absolute heaven to me....
'Knots' is the most adventurous vocal interplay I've ever heard. Certainly showed that they were about as meticulous as one could be, yet....
There's something about 'The Boys in the Band' that I love. Great instrumental, insane drumming. That's my vote.

I wonder why no one else seems to agree with me that "Think of me with Kindness" is the best song on the album. Nicely sung, but the best part is when all the symphonic instruments come in together and play that wonderful melody, I happen to be a big fan of songs featuring trumpets, trombones, and other main symphonic instruments.
