Topic: Your favourite Camel bassist? Posted: October 05 2005 at 14:30 |
All wonderful musicians and always important members of Camel, because they were also singers of the band. But every change of bassist brought a change of style.
For me Richard Sinclair's era is their best -but I will always respect Doug Ferguson for Moonmadness and Snow Goose. Also Colin Bass sang perfectly on Pressure Points and later albums, along with David Paton - who played and sang on marvellous "Stationary Traveller".

Richard Sinclair is better in many respects, but Camel made the vast majority of its best music with Doug Ferguson, which is what gives him the edge for me ... in this poll

Wow, now this is an extremely specialized question to throw up to the prog world in general. I wish I had the time to devote to repeated listenings of all Camels albums so that I could form ideas and opinions about the various bassists' styles. It woud be a dream come true.

The rhythm section on "Snow Goose" is just awesome, especially on the title track (tight as the proverbial monkey's bum).
Wasn't David Paton in Pilot ("oh-oh-oh it's magic") or is that someone else?

David Paton - the very same, he was also a member of Alan Parsons Project.
Thanks for the replies, it is nice to find fellow Camel fans.

Got turned on to them with Raindances followed by Breathless, so Sinclair gets my vote....In fact, I've
enjoyed every project he's been involved with.
