Just following up on my post (above) and tying it in with another hot forum topic, I'm disappointed at the move away from fully downloadable mp3s to streaming audio.

One of the reasons why I've bought so much music thanks to Prog Archives has been the ability to download a track and listen to it at my leisure, not just when I happen to be sitting at my computer. By doing that, I can get nice and familiar with the piece, and make a decision on whether "to buy or not to buy" over the course of a few days.

I'm a prime example of someone who uses the availability of downloadable tracks to actually put more money into the hands of the labels/artists than I would without such a service. I'm much less likely to take a financial flyer on something that I haven't heard at all. In fact, Ii'd be MORE inclined to try to get a copy by other means!

Still, I'm glad that I was able to grab those mp3s for a few months anyway.

The problem is we have had a record lable ask us take down all MP3 or streaming to their artists songs. This thread was created to show these people that progfans do indeed buy records when given decent samples to go by.

In that case, I sincerely hope that you can use the material that's been posted on Prog Archives concerning this matter to show those guys the error of their ways!

Are you a music journalist as well, Purwanto? ... they give me free CDs ... yes, all the hip-hop and boybands and Green Day wannabes I want (which is 0) ... once a year I get a CD that qualifies for progarchives (usually Dream Theater) ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

I haven't bought any, mainly because I have no money nor a job. The number would be much higher if I did.

Yay downloading!

yes, my friend, i am a journalist, interested in music even though officially it's not my area. once in a week i write album reviews. and sometimes i write music story -- if there's something really interesting.

same thing here: i receive free cds, but nothing qualifies for my paper (let alone progarchives). most of the time, i bought the cds myself.

200+

I've had to extent my storage system twice this year. See earlier threads to see list. Might be easier to set the search to Everon.

Still got 5 on order. In fact I rarely buy without seeing what you guys say in your reviews.
