Hi all!

I've been lurking for a few weeks, and finally decided to take the plunge. This is a test post as much as anything else.

I've been listening to Prog since before we knew it was Prog. I think it was called "Art Rock" back in the 70's. Or maybe that was something else.

Anyways, here I am. Hi!

Hey, Welcome! Just wondering, what other bands do you listen to?

Welcome Obert!

I too remember when Progressive Rock and Art Rock were one and the same thing!

How times change-maybe you should start a thread on the subject.......?

Ooh, I never checked back on this thread. Until now.

Other than Yes, there's Genesis, ELP, Rush, Dream Theater, Gentle Giant, Spock's Beard, Chicago, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Phish, The Flower Kings.  There are others, but that's off the top of my head.  I've always liked music that was "different", but not just weird for the sake of being weird.  Mostly, I have to get the impression that they're doing it because it's what they like to do, regardless of whatever influences they bring together, and don't care what genre it falls into or what labels people will put on it.

For that reason, you won't see me in the threads arguing about what's "prog" and what's "not prog". It's a label, one that the artists themselves try to avoid.  But it does seem that "prog" describes most of what I like to listen to.

That would be awesome. The 70's have always interested me, for example..

hello from chile, just arrived here. loved the site! I came to know lots of
bands I didn't even know existed!

I'de like to point out that all u people are missing one really important
band
from argentina: "La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros" for me one of the finest
prog
rock bands ever to come out of latin america during the ´70s. trust me
on this (they only have two albums of which "De Peliculas" is by far the
best) give it a try)         here's the list in case u're intrested in giving
them a chance:

                        1. Obertura 777 ****
                        2. Marylin, Lacenicienta y Las Mujeres ****
                        3. No Te dejes Desanimar ***
                        4. Que se Puede hcer Salvo Ver Peliculas *****
                        5. Hipercandombe ****
                        6. El Vendedor de Las chicas de PLastico ****
                        7. Ruta Perdedora ***
                        8. En las Calles de Costa Rica *****
