I really didn't say 'not' to listen to TMV, but listen to more Primus. I think the name Mr Krinkle (a primus song) came from an inside joke between Claypool and someone in Faith No More which suggests they like eachother. But, yes, that doesn't neccessarily mean Patton.
Goddam....

Primus is allright, fun stuff great musicians (les claypool is among the best bassists of all time IMO) but i dont find it all that fufilling. TMV are bounds and leaps ahead of them I find, but to each his own.

Are you striving for the Dumbest Thread Ever Award or what?
Les can play a mean bass, but he's at his best when he keeps his trap shut. He makes Claudio Sanchez of Coheed And Cambria sound like a vocal god.
Primus has three good albums, at best. The rest are nonessential.

Primus is better than TMV (Les Claypool is a GOD, and TMV is a good band).

And above all, is punk

Since when does capability of the musicians alone dictate how good a band is, heck that makes ELP easily one of the top bands of all genres three. incredible musicians (one doubles as a incredible vocalist) but the compositions (imo anyways) leave a lot to be desired. In short, I dont think Primus are good songwriters

Yes, Primus is more groundbreaking, or at least they were so in the late 80s all the way through the 90s. The Mars Volta is a good band that sails across many genres in a challenging, energetic manner, but I find their stuff less powerful andless wicked than that of the best Primus (the Tim Alexander-era albums)... and the more wicked, the better!!
Regards.

Primus is a prime example of excellent musicianship in a bunch of nonsensical songs.

Still, it always hurts to listen to Primus, and then give KC's
"Elephant Talk" a listen. It's like "Oh... so that's what
they were trying to do. "

Yeah if you were to only judge bands by their talent ELP would be at the top, I don't like them, but I do like Primus and TMV. Both enjoyalble and talented bands.

The fact is that they are supposed to be "non-sensical": it's not the result of lack of musical creativity, but a solid artistic option. There is a lot of satyre in Claypool's wicked intrincate bass lines, the Crimsonian guita rriffs and the jazz-rock drumming style delivered by Tim Alexander.

I like Primus, but Comparing them to TMV is stretching things abit.
The only true thing they have in common is a love of KC.

I, too, would like to thank you for informing me about a horrible vocalist's hatred of a band that is consistent would exceptional vocal technique. From now on, I'll obey all of Primus' wishes and despise any musician(s) who may or may not be a lot better than them.

Who are primus and The Mars Volta anyway.
Merely a footnote of a footnote in progressive rock history

I really do like Primus, but after a while, song after song of leading basslines (that get old sometimes too) and weird vocals gets to me. TMV has WAY more going on in their music and I find generally more interesting.

How can you even begin to compare the two? they're two completely different styles, they both can hold their own, and they both have loads of talent. But no matter how hard you try, you cannot prove one to be better than the other. it's just a matter of opinion
