Topic: Argh music sharing... Posted: October 03 2005 at 06:22 |
First of all i have to say that the f**king w**kers that download entire albums wich is then uploaded to an ipod or burnt to a cd disgust me. I think the least they can do to someone wich has worked hard with making a cd is buying it... I think its ok to download say a mere 5-6 songs on a artist to check out if this is something for you.
And you may even download entire albums if you want to buy them later...Ofcourse only if you like the albums...But if you DO like the albums and the artist and still continue downloading entire albums of the artist then **** you ********* and ********** and ******** you ***** *****

I agree with maidenrulez. It's okay to download samples which artists make available as this is a good way of seeing if you like a band without shelling out money for a whole CD.
If you like a band then buy the CD. A lot of prog bands are not that well-known and must have a struggle to keep going.

Music sharing is the best thing to happen to music in recent memory. Honestly do you think Comus would be getting the praise it gets now if it werent for the internet? I don't care if britney spears cant afford her new gold plated hot tub because real bands who deserve credit are finally getting exposure because of this horrible thing called music sharing..
I wouldnt own a quarter of the CD's i do if it werent for music sharing.

I think that the music industry would be way better off if every band was forced to publish one representative track of each albums for free. It doesn't even need to be one track as on the album, a reasonably long sample that represents the album is fine.
If this sample was allowed to be distributed in any form without restrictions, people would no longer have an excuse for downloading the albums, and we could all share these samples without any problems.

I download albums because i want to know if i like them before forking out 20$ for one. If record companies are really this worried that the 'artists' arent selling enough records why dont they lower their ridiculous prices? Record companies have done this to themselves and honestly they deserve everything they get. I support small labels and bands who deserve my money but major labels can suffer for all i care. Do you ever hear small bands complaining about file sharing? No. Because their music is getting needed exposure and in turn they're selling much more records. The only people who complain about file sharing is people like metallica because *gasp* they might not sell enough records to buy new ferraris. Lets all cry a tear for lars.
I'm going to continue downloading albums and buying albums because of it. Because unless record companies start lowering their prices i'm not going to risk 20$ on something i dont like.

So,it's ok to dl 5 or 6 songs but not a whole album?
I download entire albums all the time,especially if they are from a band I am not familiar with.
If I like it,I buy it when I have the chance.
If I don't,I delete it.
Basically,unless you don't file share AT ALL you oughtta keep your mouth shut and not be so preachy to other people about it.

I downloaded 'Aqualung' in its entirety because:
I bought the vinyl ages ago, but no longer have a turntable to play it on;
I then bought the cassette over 20 years ago when I got a walkman. Unfortunately, it was left in the sun, so it has that irritating 'fade' every 2-3 seconds where the sun damaged the tape through the little cassette window;
I then bought the cd about 8 years ago, which has inexplicably vanished around the mess I live in.
So, I don't have an overly strong opinion on this matter either way. It is indeed a touchy subject and both sides have valid points, IMHO. But I feel I've paid about $40 on this album over the years, so I now look at my downloaded copy as the backup I should've done before.

Not gonna lie... I download and rip CD's like a madman.
Entire albums. sometimes entire discographies.
no remorse. no regrets.
They're rich, I'm poor.
They should be happy I like their music. chances are I'll pay 50 bucks for their concert ticket anyway.

The lion's share of a bands money is made on the tour.
They actually make very little from album sales.
