Anglagard do have vocals on some of the other tracks, although they're in Swedish. Glass Hammer vocals improve a lot on their most recent album, The Inconsolable Secret (but the lyrics don't). |

ProgTologist:
I downloaded the sample song on the Tangent page...good stuff, powerful! I'll see if I can hunt down the album online somewhere... I really enjoy the Flower Kings, so I'll check out Stolt's older stuff if I can find any. Actually, I went to the best local CD store in town hunting for some prog, and found the Deluxe Edition of Spartacus by Triumvirat. I really like it -- ELP-style keys, good vocals, memorable melodies and lyrics...in all, an enjoyable album. Brian |

DarkSide: I downloaded the two Renaissance tunes from their page,
and I really do like it. Different, and intruging, but as you
say, the selling point is the beautifully crafted melodies... I like it!
Also, I do like Le Orme, as well as most of the Italian Prog. The Italians seem to have an ear for pretty melodies, and less tolerance for "weird" stuff, which is right up my alley. Give me a simple but well-written melody any day over complex but forgettable noodling... Thanks for the suggestions -- I'll check out some Greenslade (if nothing else, I know I like the Dean cover on at least one of their albums!) Brian |

Hi Brian! Hybris does have vocals in the other three cuts; the followup album Epilog is all-instrumental (and IMHO is the better album, but opinions seem to be pretty evenly split over that debate).
Glad you like this stuff. A lot of the Italian prog bands I know have lead vocalists with such strong presences (ie Banco, Locanda Delle Fate etc) that vocal harmonies seem almost unnecessary ![]()
I don't know what you listened to but only AC's first album and later albums (ie NOT their best albums) have vocals in English. Try any of these albums: Megalazottak es megszomoritottak, Fold es eg, or De Profundis - vocals are all in Hungarian (and are beautiful) and the melodies are much stronger than on the later albums (basically 6 and onwards). |

ProgMandolin, here are my recommendations: (the new gems) Little Atlas - "Wanderlust" Taal - "Skymind" Hamadryad - Everything (although they're a lttle on the hard side, don't know whether you'll like it or not) (the old gems) Indian Summer - "Indian Summer" Raw Material - "Time Is..." Bubu - "Anabelas" These bands are in the archives, and another very good young band Gargantua - s/t http://www.ptde.org/~tylda/tylda/gargantua/en.html you'll find some mp3s there Enjoy Edited by Manunkind |

You have had loads of replies to your post and by the looks of it you will have many quality hours listening ahead of you. I couldn't resist it though, try 'Softs" by Soft Machine, a LEGEND of an album. There is no singing on it but on an album like this, there is no need.If you find the time you should definetly check it out.
