^ I would call these ratings "inappropriate reviews", so it's actually not off topic.

But of course I know what you mean, let's continue this elsewhere.

PSYCHOTIC WALTZ Into The Everflow progressive rock album and reviews Progressive Metal
(Studio Album, 1992)
PSYCHOTIC WALTZ "Into The Everflow"
Review (Permanent link) by sören karlsson @ 2:38:21 PM EST, 9/24/2005
5 stars   The best - the peak - the masterpiece - the out of sight - the out of mind - the scary - pretty - good - bad - ugly - funny - sad - crazy - no superlative word is the one to describe this best progressive metal album of all times. The mother[%*!#]ers who gave one star should get ripped off in pieces, they are simply joking, deaf or have no idea about magical music, so simple is that. I for myself give it as many stars as they are in the universe, because this record earns it.

He actually has a point ... rating this album 1 star makes no sense in this universe.

The problem is that the rating and review are not just displayed, but used to calculate averages and recommendation lists. I don't think that someone rating all prog metal albums one star and all symphonic prog albums 5 stars deserves any respect for his "opinion" ... it is abuse, nothing else.

But that's just MY opinion.

Dream Theater Clean-Up, Part Two:

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by AngelFiend @ 9:11:14 AM EST, 2/1/2004

5 stars  —  The Recording is TERRIBLE! The Vocals Sucks! But the songs are my favorites on all Dream Theater's Carrer! A Fortune In Lies, Killing Hand, Only A Matter Of Time... I Love this Albun and for me is the best album (I know I'm the only that say this).

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by Bastard @ 12:26:33 PM EST, 3/20/2004

5 stars  —  Simply the best DT album.I still enjoy listening to charlie in Killing Hand, and offcourse ytse jam (best instrumental ever written). They should have sticked to this sound, they would sound much better now, but money comes first, and they have ruined it with ToT.For every true DT fan its a must have.

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by Erik @ 2:23:48 PM EST, 3/20/2004

3 stars  —  Good power progressive metal, Dominici has good vocals for a power metal band, something like Helloween, but never for Dream Theater. Check out Afterlife, Ytse Jam (one of DT's best instrumentals), The Killing Hand, Light Fuse and Get Away and Fortune in Lies

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by Andrea Nuzzo @ 2:59:19 AM EST, 5/6/2004

3 stars  —  This could be good, but it seems that all harmonies have been written by MALMSTEEN! Dominici's voice is weak, and Drums don't sound very well, beacuse of the sound resolution of the time, I suppose. I would save only the first, the second and the third track, which are really prog! In the other ones DT just try to prog!

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by Eejif @ 9:39:10 PM EST, 5/30/2004

2 stars  —  This album is ok. It was a decent start for such an amazing band. LaBrie's voice fits the band's feel much better than Dominici's. The songs aren't catchy or memorable. I would give this album a much better rating if all of the rest of their records weren't so much better.

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (
Permanent link) by Raúl @ 6:26:27 PM EST, 10/8/2004

4 stars  —  ...but this is not the beginnig. The first work was "The Majesty Demos" 3 years before. Then, this album is the real first "professional" work , make without money, without time but with many ideas, illusion, passion, and heart. They made a trademark of "progmetal" , and opened many doors to new bands - and older bands too - Good album with bad production but great songs.

DREAM THEATER When Dream And Day Unite
Review (

4 stars  —  a great debut album. Charlie Dominici's voice is not as good as labrie's, but it is a bit reminiscent of Geddy Lee. Kevin Moore's keyboard work is impressive. not as good as Jordan Rudess, but still great. the guitar sound on this album is very unique. much more 80's than the other DT albums. John Myung is also great on bass. overall, a good album. it would get a 5, if their other albums were not so great in comparison.

But that's just MY opinion.

I believe many people here think just the same way, but it should be very carefully concidered, how to define exactly the characteristics of abuse-reviews and honest opinnions.

Like for example, somebody has given one-star reviews for whole LANDBERK discography, including rarer singles and a Italian-only club release. If he/she hated some album, it's okay IMO to give one star to it, but at least some of the one-starers in the whole discography are very possibly just hate-reviewing. But how can I prove it? And I don't want to start throwing rocks upon anybody from these actions, as they are very human...

EXPLORERS CLUB Age of Impact
Review (Permanent link) by Nikola Tulimiroviæ @ 2:00:54 PM EST, 3/16/2005

1 stars  —  All I can state in addition to these mostly imbecilic comments is that I am confused and cannot believe that even people who like something much better than those stuff MTV (Music That's Vapid as I named them) serves are incapable of distinguishing intelligent from unintelligent music. They can't tell the difference between acceptable and good. Therefore they can't rate anything! This release is quite stupid but I rated it with one star only because even those monsters from MTV and some others, altogether mass brain washers such as Beyonce, Eminem, Hives, Cradle of Filth, Justin Timberlake, Ceca :o) and others exist. Anyhow, these guys shouldn't be physically eliminated, just banned to play together anytime, anymore, anywhere. Art is not only about mathematics and folk, get it? And sorry if my English is not too good, I lived my whole life in Serbia.

1 stars  —  To all prog-metal (old Dream Theater, Symphony X, Vanden Plas, Magellan, Treshold) fanatics: This is a progressive metal masterpiece! Cheesy in the extreme!! Idiotic concept!! Endless guitar & keyboards masturbation!! Screeming, high-pitched vocals!! Hair-metal melodies!! Circus atmosphere!! Name of the band is one of the most pretencious and stupid in the history of rock music!! We've got real festival of instruments here: they used probably almost everything manking ever invented!! Well, I'm sure you will go absolutely crazy over this one!! :D (sorry if it sounds offensive, I'm just in the bad mood :) Rest of the world: don't take even for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I noticed that. He even gave Big Generator 5 stars

Dream Theater clean-up, part 3:

DREAM THEATER Awake
Review (Permanent link) by Ray @ 6:43:39 PM EST, 4/11/2004

5 stars  —  I like this one specially cos its a bit dark. Lots of personal favourites on this one. The album is well-balanced too. You have the metal of The Mirror and Lie, relaxing songs (Silent man, Space dyevest, Lifting shadows), and epical pieces (Scarred, Voices). a perfect album

DREAM THEATER Awake
Review (Permanent link) by Leandro Del Prete @ 11:51:33 AM EST, 4/27/2004

5 stars  —  A great album for a great band. "A mind beside itself" could explain what I'm saying. The heavy guitars of "Lie" and "The Mirror" can make me kick any ass on the street, while "Voices" and "The Silent Man" can make me cry like a child. Lift the shadows off your dreams listening to this masterpiece (like all DT albums).

DREAM THEATER Awake
Review (Permanent link) by Progfrog @ 7:59:08 PM EST, 7/24/2004

1 stars  —  DT is a band that would be the greatest of them all if they only knew how to write songs. Impeccable playing, huge solos, lush production and astonishingly empty, basic, sometimes nothing but hilariously tasteless (Space- Dye Vest) music beneath all that flash.
DREAM THEATER Awake
Review (Permanent link) by Rich @ 6:36:19 PM EST, 8/26/2005

4 stars  —  After the slightly overrated Images And Words comes this very impressive 75 minute slice of prog metal. The sound and playing is spot on.The songs are solid and LaBrie's singing just about manages not to overtake the whole thing.I have to deduct a point because as a matter of taste I prefer Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, but this is worth checking out for sure.

5 stars  —  "Headline: Dream Theater strikes again!"( wow, that was corney...) This album takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that has everything form intence metal, 90's rock, classic rock, classic prog, epic, spacey prog, and a dark piano based song. Everything dripping wiht that classic DreamTheater intricicy and talent. A great album with an amazing flow. Essential for any progger

5 stars  —  To a lot of die hard DT fans, such as myself, Awake is credited as being an edgier version of Images and Words with perhaps JLB's best vocal performance. Even though this is one of DT's best it will take some repeated listens. The high production value on this album gives it a crisp sound that seems to never be outdated, like Images and Words. So pick this one up and listen to it many, many times.

This one is supposed to be a David Sylvian review

http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=49002

but doesn't mention the album at all.
