Which one is it?

Edit.....don't answer that!

look again at the first page......I mention them!

Actually a lot of people have mentioned them on here, IM pretty sure they are the most mentioned band on the thread

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Some interesting opinions here. For one I thought you had  to like Yes, E.L.P, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Genesis, and Van Der Graff Generator to be a fan of prog. I love or like all of these bands.

As for bands I just can't seem to like, they would  be The Mars Volta, and pretty much any prog metal except Dream Theater. Dream Theater kicks considerable amounts of ass. I also have to say that although I tend to like Frank Zappa mostly, I could overdose on his stuff pretty quickly.

Hmmmm I don't really agree with that statement.  You don't have to like everyone of those to like prog

I think you've both misinterpreted what I said...that VDGG would find its way onto the thread thru one of MY posts, which will not happen.

I am quite aware that, along with GG, they are about the most frequently mentioned band on the thread; I'm just not going to add to their misery.

I don't like my own band... I hate us. That's a joke of course. I don't have a band. Now, Marillion, Shubnigurath, Catapilla, Triumvirat, Iluvator (wich is meant to be a Band for people how like bands like Triumvirat, so you see my problem), National Health, Van der Graaf (how strange is this; I like Van der Graaf Generator, but I don't like Van der Graaf), Egg, a lot of Italian Clone bands, etc.

I really want to like Marillion...because I loved their early stuff with Fish...but I just don't like Hogarth's voice.  But I keep trying.

Dream Theater gets a little tiresome to me.

I've never really understood Zappa either.

I like most other stuff I've heard though.  HUGE Rush fan.  I picked up the bass because of Geddy Lee.  Never miss 'em on tour!

I still feel sort of guilty not really liking ELP that much i WANT to but feel too often that they were 3 powerful ego's who stepped on each others toes musically and did'nt really allow each other to shine..... i may not be putting this very well but i know what i like....

I try really hard to enjoy ELP but I only find myself listening to a mere few of their songs. Their songs often leave me feeling unsatisfied and most have nothing for me to latch onto. Too many silly songs like Are You Ready, Eddy and Benny The Bouncer. That said I rather enjoy their self-titled and love the song Tarkus. Is it a crime that my favorite ELP song is Hoedown?

YES Relayer progressive rock album and reviews YES - Relayer (1974)
Review (Permanent link) by Scott H @ 12:33:52 AM EST, 9/16/2005

1 stars  —   Undoubtedly the biggest waste of my Prog thirsty ears. I'm an ardent fan of Fragile and Close to the Edge. This album is nothing like the others. I've tried to tackle listening to this album a dozen times and I can't get myself to enjoy it. Maybe I'm just a 'casual' prog fan and "Relayer" is just out of my league. Any way I stack it I can't help but feel that this record is absolute garbage. "Relayer," more like "Recycle."

I have read this review and it is funny to notice that someone can love Close to the edge and not love Relayer. When I heard this album the first time I was completely blown away by Sound chaser (9/10).

Now that I have heard the album more often I am completely blown away by The gates of Delirium (10/10). But I have to say I had my doubts at first listen. When I listened to it more often, I came to the conclusion that the most astonishing part of the song is at 10:00-10:20 (it's almost the same as 9:20-9:40 but even better). That's the kind of sophistication I absolutely love and it is one you might overhear when you hear it for the first time. It's the same feeling I get when I listen to some songs of Gentle Giant (Give it back, Experience). There is only one part in The gates of Delirium where I think they kind of screw it up (12:27-12:48) but don't let this discourage you not to listen to this album again or to rate it with only one star.

I still have to dig To be over. I have to listen to it more often to make a good judgement about this song. I also have some trouble to dig The turn of the century from Yes' album Going for the one. But I love the Soon part from The gates of Delirium.

Can't quite comprehend how anyone claiming to like CTTE and Fragile can dislike  Relayer for Gates of Delirium is one of prog's greatest events. As sure as eggs is eggs. And Tony R, there's way too much to get through with this thread this evening. But did Three Fates get back to you on your wicked ELP comments

Fates Warning and Tool. they're not bad, but I personally don't see why they're so highly regarded. They seem very mediocre to me.
